Unable to run Opera after update - Saved Pages apparently gone

  • A few days ago Opera was updated on my Moto G3 phone to the 37.0.2192.105088 version. Since then I have been unable to run the application. It says, in Danish, "Applikationen Opera er desværre stoppet", which in English means "Unfortunately, the Opera application has stopped". There seems to be no solution: A restart/reboot certainly doesn't help.

    The thing that really worries me, is that all my Saved Pages are apparently gone because under "Settings" the data only consists of the app itself. That is a mystery to me because I had saved hundreds of pages, which are part of a project I'm working on and therefore of great importance to me. Could it be that the "frozen" Opera app is concealing the actual content? Could the Saved Pages reappear if I installed an earlier version of Opera? Is there another solution and does anyone else have this problem? I've had it several times on an older Moto G1 phone too and now it's apparently resurfaced.

    By the way, I find it incredible that there's no way you can backup your Saved Pages in Opera.

  • I've had a similar experience. I used Opera for many years on my PC, and now am using Opera for Android on a Samsung Galaxy Tab E tablet. Also I have been using the Opera VPN and Opera Max. The VPN on the tablet did not work and constantly disconnected. Then Opera started crashing immediately after opening. Now Opera is totally frozen. Like you I have many saved pages that I would like to be able to rescue (although I don't have hundreds like you do).

    I am wondering if all the saved pages could have caused the freeze? I do not know how I could use the Path that was suggested to access the pages if Opera is totally frozen. I am wondering if you have discovered a solution to this issue.

    Concerning the VPN, it seems to work pretty well on PC. I am not sure about the indicators however. If the VPN button is blue, it is connected. If it is gray, the VPN is off. My question is about the yellow-tan indicator, which says your choice of server is not available, or they are working to solve the problem. If you do a test at this point it shows a location in the US--but are you still protected by the VPN???

    But, right now I am doing at the test at whatismyipaddress.com. The VPN button is blue showing that it is working, and claims to be set to the "optimal server", but the above website shows my actual immediate physical location in the US.....NOT GOOD.

  • That previous version of June 2016 had many freeze issues, I'd say go to ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/android/3710/ and update your Opera from there to the new one with the new UI. You have to wait for a while though until "tablet mode" and some other stuff will come to (that) stable, as they are still in the beta stream.

  • Well, Opera 14 dixit. It means that a chunk of memory is executed so it will be rolled out the next one sometimes with force stop in between, never seen that since Opera 18. On the other hand I didn't try the newest UI. Related: the Canary channel from Chrome may have something to do with that.
