Bookmarks problem

I am using Opera 38.0.2220.31 on a Windows 7 Professional desktop.
When I try to save a site that I am looking at into bookmarks, I click the heart icon. It brings up the "Bookmark Added" dialogue box. But that seems to be all it does. It neither adds the page to the bookmark folder that appears to be the default (I do not know how it came to be the default) nor can I change to another folder. If I press the down arrow and choose another folder, it goes back to the original default folder. When I try to find this page that I thought I had just bookmarkes, it is neither in the default folder nor in the folder I was trying to get it into.
What's happening?
