Homepage setting

Hello.
I need some help with setting my homepage. Right in the preferences window, next to where it says Home Page, I typed in https://google.com/ However, when I launch Opera it loads up with a page that has images on it that are linked to Opera, Amazon, Lonely Planet, ebay, etc. Oh, and a small search field towards the top of the page for Google.

The settings seem pretty straight forward but obviously I'm missing something. So, how can I set my home page to Google? Homepage by definition is supposed to be the default page that loads when you launch a web browser, right?

I cannot even see any field labeled "Home Page" anywhere in the preferences window. How can I set the homepage?
