Customise tool bar options for Mac OS

I understand it is still not possible to customise the tool bar in Mac OS. Having used Opera Beta for some time had I thought I would add some themes and perhaps change the appearance of the tool bar so I did a google search and found a lot of pages describing the use of Control+ click and options available under the Tools Menu and realised that these options were all available on PC.
Given that Opera has been around for a while and that I am using it on my iDevices as well I am surprised to find that features freely available on PC for some time are still unavailable on Mac OS.
