Cannot get Opera Mail to access my gmail account

  • I have installed Opera Mail and configured it to get my gmail messages. I keep getting a message that the password is incorrect - which I have checked and it is not. I have tried both POP and IMAP settings
    Any suggestiosn

  • Do you have gmail address that doesn't end in @gmail.com? If so and you used that address in the new account wizard, Opera won't automatically use the right settings.

    If that's the case, delete the account and add it back in, but use @gmail.com in your email address (but use your correct email address for the username). Then, after the account is set up, go back in change it.

    Besides that, retype your username and password on the "servers' tab in the account's properties. Sometimes that gets messed up.

    Besides that, do you have anti-virus with an email scanner? If so, turn the email scanner off. Or, configure it to work work with Opera Mail. For example, you might have to uncheck TLS on the "Servers" tab and use port 143 for IMAP or port 110 for POP instead of using 993 and 995 respectively, so that the anti-virus can scan your connections.

    Make sure the date, time, time zone and daylight savings settings are all correct on your system.

    Make sure POP and IMAP are enabled in the settings at mail.google.com

    Also, if you use 2-step verification for your google account, turn that off and see if that helps. I think that requires oAuth, which Opera Mail doesn't support.

  • If you use 2-step verification for your google account, obtain an "application password" on your google account and use it for Opera Mail access.
