It's been an issue since opera presto was abandoned.
Yes, I live in Greece - guilty as changed - BUT:

      1. My windows are en-GB
      2. My computer is the alienware 18, i.e. from the US
      3. The opera installation is the en-GB one
      4. ALL of my computer settings, location and everything is set to en-GB/United Kingdom (except for the system locale so that greek ANSI texts are readable)

I can literally do NOTHING more to make my set-up more english, and yet Opera insists on using google.gr, and even more depressingly still, el.wikipedia.org. the greek wikipedia is nearly EMPTY - it has nothing in it! why would anyone in one's right mind choose to use el.wikipedia?
C'mon opera... I'm sorry I come out with such negativity.. maybe I'm projecting, but my point stands still.

Yes - I understand that default search engines (google, youtube, wikipedia and so on) are hard-coded so that viruses can not change them.
Yes - I understand that I can never re-assign the "g" keyword to make it manually point to google.gr for security reasons
However, No, I don't understand why I can't choose between the different implementations of the already hard-coded search engines.
I have the en-GB opera, I need the ability to actually choose the bloody English engines.

This is the second time I'm writing about this issue and I'd really like it to be addressed. It's like 10 minutes worth of coding to create the extra combobox and assign it with the string array of languages and make the engines read from the list of arrays for each engine from each language.

At the end of the day, I'll still continue using Opera whether it's addressed or not because opera's the best browser for my needs.. but the frustration will continue to boil within me 😛

Well, thanks for your insight. One thing I could suggest is that you could use some free VPN which allows to simulate your desired location.

Try https://forums.opera.com/post/88160, perhaps: there's a file to change (Local state or something).
