Opera 33 opens external urls in new window

By external I mean urls in email or other non-browser text. I want them to open in a new tab in the main window. This has been the case until recently. Is there a setting that will change this behavior?

We have a thread about it already, the user seems inquisitive.

The solution -- to change behavior of popups in IE -- worked. Thanks for the reference. "Recently" because I installed Win 10 and IE about a month ago. I rarely use IE, favoring Opera instead.
