Both 12.17 and current version installed on W-7 and/or Vista

I have a system running Vista which I use for certain things. I installed 12.17 and set the update policy to Never, but then discovered that websites would often not function properly. I think it's more of a Vista thing than a 12.17 thing. So I downloaded and installed the current Opera, expecting my 12.17 installation to disappear. However, to my delight, both 12.17 and the latest version continued to work. Are there any gotchas with running two versions on one PC? I'd like to duplicate this on my W-7 systems which only have 12.17. I suspect it is better to first install 12.17, then the latest.

Nope, Opera 12 and the current Opera share nothing in common except the name.

Thanks to lando242 and lestalia for the responses. That's great, I can use 12.17 for most things and the current version for the troublemakers.
