Where are the bookmarks in Opera 18?

I don't see it as a contentious issue. It's clear (at least to me having been reading the forum for years now) that the OP was doing little more than venting his frustrations (a type of trolling) rather than seeking a solution.

I've said I wouldn't continue to debate the matter of the OP's authenticity/trolli-ness, and I won't. But, since "venting [of] frustrations" has been a major element of many of this forum's threads for months now, I do want to say that in my view the venting of frustrations, per se, should not be regarded as a form of trolling. On the other hand, venting one's frustrations by making posts a significant part of whose purpose is to be provocative and adopting a false persona designed to enhance that provocative effect certainly is trolling.
And you're certainly entitled to your opinion regarding trolling (with which I respectfully disagree) but that, to me, is not the real issue here. The OP did not want a solution which was provided by Pesala and later re-iterated by me. He failed to read Pesala's work-around or if he did, he never stuck around to indicate such but simply vanished.

And I would go so far as to simplify that by saying that anyone posting under a false persona (while also posting under other personas) IS a troll, almost by definition because his efforts are disruptive since they're not legitimately made. That said, however, we're all just guessing about the nature of the poster in this case (and often in other similar cases)... and, truly, at this level of our lack of direct knowledge, each of our guesses is as valid as anyone else's. Personally, I prefer the "innocent-until-proven-guilty" approach. In any case, enough electrons have been inconvenienced in this discussion's focus... so for me, it's back to my work!

Guys just wait for and get extensions, They will do what you want. This is a great new version, I love it. Opera FTW..
You all sound like my grandma, looking for that page you had bookmarked and she doesn't even have the right browser opened.
Just learn to use the browser and you will love it. They remove and change stuff to make it faster, which it is faster.
Very good version, can't wait for many extensions compaitible for new version and updates on this version..
Thanks Opera!
Edit: I just use the stash tab which is amazing. Also just saw someone say about the speed dial combine. Also you can search your speed dial.
If you can't figure out how to save and get back to a page without the word "bookmark" then you have problems.I'm not saying they shouldn't have the bookmarks there. It is the first thing I noticed being gone along with sessions but there are other ways.

There are other ways, yes, such as real browsers http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1773722

Well I just found the extensions "Tabhamster" and "Browse++"
And the stash is really good. Just use those 3 things and you will be fine. But I don't import and export bookmarks between browsers so I wouldn't have those problems..
I don't know why they would remove the bookmarks. It doesn't make much sense but I won't be using another browser because I love opera.
And the Stash tab needs some work. They need to make it so you can move each stashed item up or down at least. Also I would add the stash the ability to open all. Also when the stash is the only thing opened you can't click the little X on the tab and close it back to speed dial.. that annoys me.

Wow ersi that info is great. I have now installed and tried both SeaMonkey and Firefox and you are quite correct; their Bookmarks and Sessions are excellent and migrating html links from other browsers is a dream. I am now migrating my Opera Sessions. It would be great if a future version of Opera could become as good as those. In the meantime I have adopted Firefox version 25 primarily because I do not need the email client built into SeaMonkey .
Many thanks for your helpful response.

I'm with you and many others are as well. The more I use Opera 18, the more I love it. This browser just keeps getting better and better. It is now my default having uninstalled FF and pushed Chrome off to a side track.

I too am looking forward to having extensions for Bookmarks and Sessions. I have been given encouraging news that they will be available soon. I am now getting excited.

Instead of importing 4,000 bookmarks to Speed Dial, import them to the Quick Access Bar (aka Bookmarks Bar). That's still rather a lot of bookmarks for the QAB to handle, but as long as they are well organised into folders and subfolders it should work well enough. I have about 1,200 bookmarks in 86 folders/subfolders.
How do you import hundreds of bookmarks into QAB?
I can only add one bookmark or one folder at a time to QAB.
I don't see any option to *import* bookmarks. -

There's a bookmark importer on the Opera Menu, Tools submenu. If that's greyed out, then search the forum for "importer" or "bookmarks."

Okay.. So I entered "opera://bookmark-importer" in the address bar and Opera displays add bookmarks page.
However, when I clicked on the "import into quick access bar" option, it displayed a virtual blanked page with a back button and a search field only.I was expecting the function to allow me to choose a bookmark file (such bookmark HTML file exported from other browsers or the adr bookmark from old version of Opera) to import.
Don't tell me this bookmark importer will only import bookmarks from old Opera 12 user profile.
If so that is a brain dead design because:
1) I am testing Opera 18/Next in a VM which did not have old Opera version installed.
2) Don't expect to convert users of other browsers if you don't allow import of bookmarks from Firefox, Chrome or IE. -

OK, then I won't. It will also import bookmarks from earlier version of Opera. I imported mine from Opera 11.64.

To get my bookmarks moved I copied my bookmarks html file into Opera's pref directory, replacing the Bookmarks file inn that directory.

I still cannot get Opera 18 or Opera Next to import bookmarks from Opera 12.
Attempt #1:
Copied both bookmarks.html exported by Opera 12 and bookmarks.adr from Opera 12's user profile into the following directories on a Win 7 OS:
C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Next
C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera StableNeither Opera 18 nor Opera Next recognized any bookmarks to be imported when I go to the "opera://bookmark-importer" screen.
Attempt #2:
Renamed bookmarks.html to just "bookmarks" and replace the old bookmarks file created by Opera 18 and Opera Stable.
Neither Opera 18 nor Opera Next recognized any bookmarks.Attempt #3:
Renamed bookmarks bookmarks.adr to just "bookmarks".
Neither Opera 18 nor Opera Next recognized any bookmarks.Attempt #4:
Copied the whole Opera 12 user profile to directory
C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\OperaThis is the user profile that would have been created if I installed Opera 12 on my Windows 7 OS.
Again. Neither Opera 18 nor Opera Next recognized any bookmarks to be imported.
What is going on???
If you install other browsers (Firefox, Chrome), they will offer the option to import bookmarks from other browser or have options to import HTML bookmark files created by other browsers. Even IE has options to import bookmarks from other browsers.
Opera 18 and Opera Next???? I just don't get it.

You are doing it wrong. Not that Opera does it right, but anyway
Here are instructions on how to import bookmarks from old Opera to Chropera via Chrome http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/107676502?startidx=150#comment112459182
Then there are also command strings: "<Full path to Opera 17>\launcher.exe" --presto-small-prefs-dir="<Full Path to Opera Presto>\profile" more instructions - http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=14856552
As you see, instead of high-tech geeky feature-rich bloat, the company has turned to a solid product that "simply works". Everybody be happy now.

No; you raised a callous subject. Welcome on board of a capsized ship, soon to be foundered.
Opera has been determined to screw their users ever since their stubborn refusal to implement features that others considered standard (such as autocompletion of forms). Some of the Opera staff have even gone as far as spitting into the users' faces, claiming that they do not need the features for which they had been clamouring for years and years, literally.
Of course, as a company in crapitalism, they are after money first and foremost. And the management found out that anyone could make more money with a chromium clone than Opera was making with its browser... so they ditched it completely and jumped on the bandwagon of freeriding on that faddish bloatware... ostensibly for the sake of "mobile applications", of course.
Feel free to bitch here, though. They are quite callous, as you see. The new version does not even have BMs, as you noticed. And it never will, I suppose, despite all their endless promises in the past months of "prioritizing" and all such crap, because the dark forces had decided that it should be without BMs, so it shall remain so. Perhaps they are sadists.
All those cries and wailing have been to no avail. Rather than listening to the woes, they have now decided to shut down the whole venue from where it has been coming. Apparently, this could be called "Opera solution" in the future.
Yet one thing never ceases to amaze me. The abundance of blindly fanatical brain-damaged fanboys, who crop up in almost every thread an personally attack the complainer in an absurd effort to defend the indefensible.

Installing, using, and exploring Opera, and "explaining all of this to everyone I meet"? You've certainly managed to pack a lot of activity into the space of an hour.
Only the feeble-minded would not find out in an hour what features the new Opera were missing. (I wonder how long it could have taken you, especially considering you reading comprehension skills... In case it still has not occurred to some: he was having "endless fun explaining it to everyone" after that one-hour horrible experience.)

For some odd reason, Opera chose to follow the trends in web browsing. Already dead browser with practically zero market share went to try something new that most of its old users don't like at all and still finds million excuses why 15+ is better than older ones. I still use good old Opera 12 because it suits my needs and has everything I need, but I'm getting rather tired of Presto acting weird on hundreds of webpages. I still hope Opera will listen to its users and implement its good old features it made the browser so much better than its competitors but so far it appears to me that the great browser that once was is fading away. I'll hold my breath and wait for until new year than I guess I'll finally quit and move along to something useful instead.

I love opera and I will just use as many versions of it as I need. So far I use opera 12.16, Opera 18 and Opera Next.
The only thing I want fixed is the stash. I would like to be able to move items in the stash up and down. If I can already, please tell me how. Thank you!
I also advise opera makers to take version 12.16 and put the good speed dial and stash stuff in there WITHOUT removing anything or adding too much!
Thats all I want.. Opera 12.16 with Stash and the speed dial system. Thank you!

Unfortunately this will not happen. Opera Presto is finished as far as any further additions or development to the suite is concerned. The only thing they will do is add security patches... period. The browser is getting older now and its compatibility with many web sites is increasingly poor. They're not going to spend time adding Speed Dial and Stash to a browser that can no longer open many sites online. It's over I'm afraid.
