Have had this problem for years
I start here: https://login.library.utoronto.ca/cgi-bin/go_log.pl?url=http://bf4dv7zn3u.search.serialssolutions.com/?SS_Page=refiner
and end up here:
but nothing appears. It's just and empty white field in the browsers.

Both pages appear to display ok in Opera 12.14 on Linux.
You don't say which version of Opera you are using ?, maybe the Classic version of Opera (Presto) 12.xx and older ?, considering you say you 'Have had this problem for years'.
Maybe worth give 12.14 a go/try, if you do indeed happen to be using Opera Classic (Presto).
