Exporting Bookmarks or the Lack of Exporting Them

I can't understand why there is no way of exporting bookmarks in the newer versions of Opera. What's the point of bookmarking websites if you cannot backup your bookmarks in the event you have to reinstall or upgrade your operating system? I have over 200 bookmarks in Opera 12.15, which I can export and import.

There are three ways to do it. You can either simply copy the bookmarks file, you can use Opera Sync or you can use an extension (V7 Bookmarks is a personal favorite). But yeah, there isn't one built in.

This is helpful. Not having a simple bookmarks export function isn't. I use the browser inside Sandboxie to quarantine any nasties that might be encountered. Deleting the Sandbox unfortunately also deletes any new bookmarks added while browsing. At least the base set of bookmarks, which ironically were exported from a previous version of Opera, survives...

@sheepwhisperer
you can make a rule in Sandboxie to pass(recover) some files directly to your drive (out of sandbox)
it's easy to add it...
add Bookmarks file in your profile folder to direct access for Opera
(i think it's something like that, can't test now) -

Hello vux777 and thankyou very much. I think I found what you meant (Sandbox settings > Applications > Web browsers > Other) where there are options "Allow direct access to Opera bookmarks / to entire Opera profile folder". But, having selected these, changes to bookmarks are still not retained after deleting the Sandbox contents.
This is obviously a Sandboxie issue rather than an Opera one; but I suspect Sandboxie has not kept up with current Opera file locations. I am not technically proficient (at all!) so cannot tell from the underlying code for the Sandboxie configuration.
Hunting about in File Explorer, there seems to be a 'bookmarks' file (no file extension?) in AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera Software\Opera Stable and 'bookmarks.adr' in AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera (not sure if both are relevant). Maybe Sandboxie doesn't recognise these paths as ones to be allowed access?
Meanwhile I cannot make your 'V7 Bookmarks' stick either inside Sandboxie. After box deletion the extension just disappears completely... -

Use the bookmarks importer. Its in settings.

What?
the side bookmarks in the one of the main reason that i use the Opera browser.
Go to Opera extension store and search for V7 Bookmarks. That will add bookmarks to Opera 33's Extensions Sidebar.
