Where thumbnails in a Speed Dial?

  • Most asked developers to return thumbnails in Speed Dial !!!!
In the meantime, will have to return to the previous version.

P.S. Where did this fashion for minimalism?

  • New Speed Dial is horrible

  • You can change the icon of any speed dial page by going to that page and clicking the heart icon to the right of the address bar. From there you use the arrow buttons to cycle through the available icons for that page.

  • Yes not in it business the matter is that a look at them poor a corner tiled it is also white the sick-list and the big size, the old look and the size of miniatures suited all, users of the desktop version of the browser have to have always a choice.
Return a choice of miniatures in expremental start page of the browser and everything it will become good.

  • I want to block sites. Is that in opera possible. I click right above. Nothing! What to do?

  • Developers! Pleas listen to your customers, don't ruin features, for which many people like your browser, give us back "Experimental start page" flag. This colored plates - ugly as hell.

  • The workaround tips doesn't work, best idea yet, rollback to 30.x, the opera://flags point of Experimental Startpage isn't available anymore. What a horror scenery whit that discount locking icons like MS Windows 8.x . How to rollback with no warranty: search for directory "old_status" rename the file installation_status.xml_xxxxxx to installation_status.xml, copy to OPERA root than delete or move the latest opera installation 31.xxx directory. Start opera.exe from 30.xxx directory. It works for me.

  • Are you people referring to Opera 31? I'm using Opera 30 and I LOVE the speed dial thumbnails - they are beautiful and if you want to change them to thumbnail screenshots of the web site just click on the heart.

Lots of choices for everyone - what's not to love? šŸ™‚

    Not understanding the complaints...

  • You don't understand about what there is a speech, and it is about a poor type of miniatures on the panel express, and here change don't change, and not to clean this awful ugloplitochny and brightly belobolnichny look, here therefore I before each updating disconnect autoupdating. And to Developers to spit on us users and our opinion and to fail with this look.

  • Yeah, that white background is really horrible. Only acceptable option here is opaque background.

Please listen to your users. You know, unlike your competition, you don't have that many of them šŸ˜‰

Well, I WAS also using Opera 30, but suddenly my browser now says "Opera has been updated". If I could go back to 30, I'd not be complaining. I hope that you've found a solution against this very intrusive feature... If you can share your method to stop auto-updating, thanks in advance.

I want to get rid of this "experimental" speed dial. Considering the number of posts here asking for the way to get rid of this ugly white line and so on, I'd say the developers should have concluded that the experiment was not a success. It seems that they are just happy with themselves.

I had a Speed Dial with maybe 80 to 100 thumbnails. Suddenly Opera in Opera 31 changed them all to ugly icons, that make me dizzy to look at. I can't go back to what I had without individually changing each icon, a laborious task that is ridiculous. Previously Opera had in Opera://flags a way to keep thumbnails instead of icons with one click. Opera took away the choice. And if I were able to change the 80-100 thumbnails, would Opera do the same in the next update, change them to ugly icons? And I'd have to individually try to change each one back. This change in Opera 31 is quite simply impossible to live with.

Its possible. I've seen the answer posted on this forum many, many times. Theres one a few posts up from here at the time I posted this reply.

I want to get rid of this "experimental" speed dial.

Its not "experimental". It was "experimental" like 3 releases ago. It was made the default shortly after that. The only way you could enable the old one was via a flag or being 'grandfathered in'. Its not going away. You can load an extenion that replaces it though if you like.

.45 caliber aspirin sounds like the only cure...

  • Dear developers, add advanced settings for speed:
Ā  - Set as my own picture of site as thubnail
    Ā  - Set background

    • Set size and number of thubnails

Before, I used the "SQLite Database Browser" to edit the "thumbnails.db" file, but now it does not work.

    Thankyou.

    Windows 7 HP
    Opera 31.0.1889.99

  • The developers don't get out here much. You are much more likely to catch a devs eye by replying on the desktop blog soon after a release.

  • Poorly and in a disgusting way, this sharp white hospital background and an ugloplitochny look killed the best browser. Continuous ugliness. Such ugliness could be made and without removal of this control opera://flags/#experimental-start-page., was to establish a visual laying of Yandex in the Opera enough and you would receive such poverty.

  • Yeah, I can make peace with the fact that I have to select proper picture for the thumbnail - it can be even useful - but that white background..horrible. What's the point of having option to change the background for the whole speed dial, when you can't even see it?

I would really like to know what were you thinking..

It's pretty much the same with Windows 10 and its white title bars (no transparency at all) - god I hope they make some update for that. It's like change just for the sake of change - it's new you see? It's different than windows XP,7,8

  • I had 80 to 100 thumbnails in my Speed Dial, with beautiful themes that I could use as background. It was a joy to use the browser -- left me, whenever I did, smiling. I know in the last few versions to keep the option for thumbnails instead of the icons, I had to go to Opera://flags to keep the thumbnails, and to eliminate the ugly white borders for the Speed Dial folders. With Version 31 Opera updated, eliminated the ability to keep the older more beautiful version of its Speed Dial via Opera://flags, and turned them into ugly ugly ugly icons with the white borders, that totally wiped out the ability to enjoy themes. I offer up three" ughs for the incredible state of ugliness version 31 gives because it is impossible for me to look at the Speed Dial now. Thank you developers for not tending to things that needed to be improved (and yes, there were many still) and turning what had been a truly wonderful Speed Dial into glitzy junk.

Now that's my humble opinion. At this point, for a desktop Browser, let me state quite simply: I prefer Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Vivaldi, whatever . . . . Thank you, developers, for self-destructing this browser. Is there no one on the development team who understands aesthetics?

  • I don't know.. but I think decisions like this are usually made by managers.
I don't think developers have much word in design.

  • I think this transition to Opera 31 would have gone much smoother if the default visual for speed dial were overridden with the thumbnails set from the user's Opera profile. I find it unlikely that Speed Dial will stay the way it is, but even if it doesn't it really isn't that bad. I prefer it to the old speed dial.

That being said I am a die hard Opera fan. I use other browsers only when I have to.
