Opera is "calling home" when history deleted

  • When I delete my history (cache, cookies), I notice a network traffic on my android phone.

    WHY???

  • I didn't notice that using DataStats.apk.

  • Probably because your phone is constantly connected with other software.
Try turning all of that off, and when you delete the history, it shows network activity at that exact point, every time it is being done.

I guess, nobody cares about these things any more, a little network traffic never hurt no one. I'll have to find some other forum to rant about this, I am sure there are sites that like to investigate security issues like this.

  • I wouldn't default to call network traffic a security issue. To be honest I haven't checked what exactly the network request is in this case, but there are a number of valid network requests that are done occasionally, like fraud protection (data so we can warn when a malicious site is accessed), browser.js which is javascript that can be injected on certain sites to correct errors or quickly fix problems, synchronization requests (if it's turned on) etc.

  • Thanks for the answer, I appreciate it, although all this isn't the case, because I am deleting cookies and history while no page is open. I'm gonna make a video and post it.

  • Yes, I noticed this....it's what you look for to catch malicious apps.
A 'User Report' ..., when they've just had all your clicks & links & have all your bookmarks anyway...
And the User pays for it on their data plan. The app size, data growth, cache & background data is higher than even Google or Facebook....Lol.
