Looks like Opera discover (or News as it is called now) is some type of "spyware" to me...is there a way to disable it? I say spyware because it is pre-caching in the background and it could be sending results to a remote server. Ofcourse, it may not be, but it would be good to have a way to disable/remove it.

      Shortcut for news: opera://news/

      I am using Opera 34.0.2036.25 on Windows 7 64.

thanks, but there isn't a way to know if it is sending results or not. Why isn't there a way to disable it? It would be nice to have it and it is what is keeping from using Opera at the moment as a primary browser.

Yes there is. You just need a network sniffer to be sure. Either way, you don't need to worry about it. If Opera wanted to steal all your history without asking you they wouldn't do it via the news feature. They would just do it in the browser in a way that isn't visible to you. This is what Google does with Chrome if you 'log into' the browser with your account. They tell you up front that they will collect all your data of course.

If you don't like it, don't use it. Theres no need to have a way to disable it. If it really bugs you that much just replace the speed dial with someone else using an extension.

That is unfortunate, I hope they really have a built in way to disable it. I like the browser otherwise, but this discover/news and speedial are both worrisome.

Why'd anyone "log in" a browser? This whole logging into services is a terrible trend, I think.
