External links opening in new windows instead of tabs; no setting to control this

Fresh install of Windows 10, the same of Opera 33.0.1990.58, and all links clicked (or automatically launched) in other applications now open in new Opera windows. In previous versions, they'd opened in tabs, which I prefer. I cannot seem to find a setting or tweak that controls this behavior, is there one?

No, there isn't. Its also not the default behavior so something has gone wrong. I'd try a complete uninstall and reinstall and see if that fixes it.

Ok, this one has miraculously solved itself after I changed the corresponding setting in Internet Explorer and rebooted.
(Settings -> General -> Tabs -> Settings -> When a pop-up is encountered -> Always open pop up in new tab option; Reboot). -

Sounds like it was set at the system level; you often can get to that level through IE, since that's where Microsoft wants you to look.
