opera 32 is a major fail

So a began a download from google drive yesterday for a large file (400 MB) and it was taking a while so I walked away. I returned later to find that not only did opera couldn't handle the file and it crashed, but it crashed the OS all together. This is just the beginning.
I restart the computer open opera and find that I LOST ALL 40 TABS THAT I HAD OPEN!
No problem, I can just use the recover tab button right? NO, IT HAS NO OPTION TO RECOVER ANY TAB!!!
Again no problem, I can just sign back into opera link and get my tabs back right? NO, I SIGN BACK IN TO OPERA LINK AND IT DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Not only this, but I tried to sing in to opera link from the website AND THERE IS NO OPTION TO VIEW OPEN TAB INFO!
Ok again no problem, let me just look for the autosave.win or the lastsession.db file to see if it is restoreable. THE FILE DOES NOT EXIST!
I use recuva to undelete the file, AND STILL NOTHING IS FOUND! Apparently opera 32 does not use either of these files to store session data.
Ok so let me visit opera forums and do some research, THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON HERE ABOUT HOW OPERA STORES SESSION DATA IN OPERA 32.
To say that this has been a disaster is an understatement. I come here in hopes that somebody may know how or where opera 32 stores its session data and how to recover it. This is been a very negative experience for me and I am so mad at opera that I am just about done with it.
why would the lastsession.db and autosave.win be completely be removed from opera 32 without a support article to guide the user on how to work in place of it completely confuses me. this is irresponsible at the least.
i come to the forums to find dozens of people havign crashed sessions and lost tab info with no solution, and the suggestion is to install a google chrome extension to save sessions for next time?? are you seriious?

Can you post the relevant error message form your Event Viewer? It should say what actually caused the crash. Its unlikely to have been Opera because modern versions of Windows are pretty well insulated from things like that. These days generally only system file issues and driver issues can take down Windows. If you could find the crash message that would be very helpful.

When problems down close down cleanly data gets lost. They can't make their final writes to the files and they get corrupted.
OPERA LINK AND IT DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Opera Link was last used for Opera 12. Opera 32 uses Opera Sync. Same problem as above though. If the program does not close down cleanly you will lose data.
lastsession.db THE FILE DOES NOT EXIST!
It wouldn't. Opera 32 does not use such a file.
Apparently opera 32 does not use either of these files to store session data.
Right.
how or where opera 32 stores its session data and how to recover it.
Opera doesn't have a session system. The closest it has is that it will save open tabs when you exit the browser if you have 'Continue where I left off' selected in options. But, as I said above, if the browser does not close down cleanly that data can be lost.
THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON HERE ABOUT HOW OPERA STORES SESSION DATA IN OPERA 32.
If you want a session system in Opera 32 you'll have to download an extension. I recommend Session Buddy, it is fantastic.
why would the lastsession.db and autosave.win be completely be removed from opera 32
Neither of those files is used by Opera 32. Where are you getting information saying they are? Are you reading articles for versions of Opera from before version 15?
Also, you are using the capslock quite a bit in your post. Its considered rude to do so. If you could please refrain from doing that you will probably get more help. As its stands though this seems to be a live and learn experience. You should always have a recovery option in place that you know works for anything you consider vital. As they say, don't trust it till you test it. If you down want to install an extension to save your tabs for you just remember that saving tabs as as a folder on your speed dial is only two clicks away at any time. Removing said folder is also only a few clicks away and speed dials are saved to Sync. I'm sorry you had to learn that had way but that is how most people learn. As a last thought, did you look into your History to see of you could find the tabs that way?

thank you for such a detailed post.
right now my main concern is getting my tabs back.
no my history is not a feasable option because i had pinned tabs from way back when that are nto in my history.
are you telling me that there is absolutely no way for me to find what tabs i had open?
not even by using an undelete program?
because opera does not keep a lastsession.db file anymore?
i dont mean to sound rude, but whose genius idea was it to stop keeping this file when making opera 32?
and why has opera sync completely failed at getting ym tabs back? was it lieing to me when it told me it was syncing my stuff?

Basically. If you can't dig through your history and you didn't have them bookmarked you are out of luck. Open tabs are not written anywhere, they are stored in memory. When bad things happen you often lose whats in memory. I bookmark every page I want to save and I keep a copy of my bookmarks on another drive. On top of that I have a session manager that keeps copies of all of my opened and recently opened tabs and pages and keeps multiple copies sorted by date. I can not overstate how useful Session Buddy, and other problems like it, are. If you had it installed it would have had you covered.
not even by using an undelete program?
They were not stored in a file so there is nothing to undelete.
because opera does not keep a lastsession.db file anymore?
Opera does not have a session manager built into it. When they rebuilt the browser from scratch little used features were left out because they were more work to maintain then their users were getting benefit from. Very few people used the sessions feature of Opera 12 and it wasn't worth recreating. They put the extensions system in there to pick up the slack. There are several session managers out there that work with or can be made to work with Opera. In fact, most of them are better than Opera's old sessions manager ever was. Then of course there are bookmarks and the speed dial. As I said you can save every open take in a window at any time with two clicks. There are many options out there.
and why has opera sync completely failed at getting ym tabs back?
Because Opera did not shut down cleanly. Thats what happens when Windows crashes. As I said above, when you don't close programs cleanly bad things happen. This happens with just about any program, not just Opera. Save early and often.
was it lieing to me when it told me it was syncing my stuff?
It wasn't. You are misunderstanding what sync is though. It is not a method of backing up your stuff. It is a method of sharing stuff between devices. If Opera isn't closed properly there is no guarantee that it will be able to sync things before it fails. Even then its not like you can access the tabs you have synced on the machine you are syncing them from. Thats just not what its for.
i dont mean to sound rude
You got burned, I understand. Bad things happen and you get angry. Everyone has been there. The fact of the matter is you screwed up. You didn't bookmark the pages, you didn't put them in your speed dial, you didn't even make sure there was a method of saving your tabs if something went wrong. You had no way of recovering them if something happened and then something happened. In short, you didn't save your work. You waited until something bad happened and then relied on some kind of built in recovery option to save you. Sadly, there wasn't one.

I know a friend who browses like that (over9000 tabs) and it's stupid to do so. If you want to keep track of a lot of websites, use the bookmark system! Just because you can do it, it doesn't mean that you should do it. I hardly have got more than 5 tabs open at the same time - and I am browsing A LOT ^^.
As for your problem, the only thing that perhaps could work, would be to restore your entire system via "system restore". I cannot guarantee that it will work, though. Depends if you've got a good restoration point.

I'm currently rocking 4 windows and 31 tabs. I often bump that up to 5 windows and a ton more tabs when I'm reading webcomics. I regularly open 200+ tabs at a time in Opera. Not have 200 open, open 200 at once. I know Opera is stable and can handle stuff like that. Heck, Opera itself has been running for 9 days without restarting it. I leave my browser open all the time and the last time I only exited it to update it to version 32. It ran for a few weeks without a restart prior to that.

thanks for help guys, i started using session buddy, where are these sessions stored now?
