I'm having the same problem, changed the name of "Opera Stable" folder, which then Opera made a new one, but the theme still won't stick upon reopening the application.
I'm on Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

I have now installed win10 on two other computers in my home and the theme sticks on those machines perfect, still don't understand why a theme won't stick on my computer.
Still looking for the answer.

I don't have an answer yet, but I'm glad I found the only thread on the Internet that mentions this issue. Strangely enough, Opera on my laptop works just fine. The theme problem only occurs on my desktop.
It's hopefully something that could be fixed in an update. Until then, I'm searching through the installation files to find a solution.

"Exactly what do I need to rename, I went to "about opera" and found this info:
profile is at path, C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable
I go to the above location and there are tons of folders and files, not one says profile.
Any help would be appreciated."
That path takes you into Opera Stable, remove the words Opera Stable and try again.

Same issue here. Windows 8.1. It keeps reverting back to the leaf theme.
It works fine on my Windows 10 machine, though.

Same issue on one of my laptops after an update to the latest version of Opera (both are Windows 10, but only one is having this problem).

I just fixed the issue on Windows 8.1.
I uninstalled Opera, deleted the installation folder from my Program Files, and reinstalled. Opera recognized my account and synced all my extensions, bookmarks, and settings. Most important, the themes are finally sticking.
Victory!

Actually, nevermind. It's going back to the same theme again.
At least this time it's stuck with a better looking one.

Have the same problem with Opera 32 using Windows XP Pro SP3.
If I close and re-open Opera, whatever theme I saved will go away and the default Raindrops theme will appear.
If I save one of 'My Themes', close Opera and shutdown the computer, the theme saved will return upon re-starting the computer and opening Opera. Of course, if I close Opera during the session and re-open...Raindrops again. -

They're never going to fix these issues. I don't know why I bother using Opera anymore.

Yeah... after all... themes are so vitally important to our everyday lives, right? LOL You're going to stop using Opera because the theme doesn't "stick", is that right? Seriously? I love Opera. I have no issues with themes on my Lenovo running Windows 10. Maybe it's time your checked your OS and installed programs before blaming Opera. Just sayin'.

The theme problem, always reverting to 'Raindrops, continues in 33. To test further, I installed the Developer and Beta versions of Opera. The problem does not exist with these two. A reasonable assumption is something in my settings, or something from continuously installing over the top, with Opera stable has been corrupted.
However, I'll give stable(34) one more chance when available. If the problem does not clear I will start fresh with a complete and thorough uninstall. I'll post an update on the results. -

Problem solved: For my system, uninstalling, including checking the box to 'Delete my Opera user data, and doing a fresh install solved the problem. The issue was a corruption of my Opera user data (see previous post). Bookmarks were saved to a html file. Cheers!
