Downloading files 2Gb or greater

Am still using Opera 12 on the Desktop and can no longer download files that are 2gb or greater. I can do so in Firefox on the Desktop and Opera 12 on the laptop. I have obviously done something somewhere but what?

What happens when you try to download the large files?
Does it download to 2GB and then fail, or does it fail immediately?
What if any error messages do you get?

It just comes up with error on Opera's download page. Not a single Byte is downloaded.
