The Opera 31 has been promoted to the beta channel: 31.0.1889.16
The change log, and the announcement: Opera 31 beta is here.
"We are happy that you can put your hands on the Opera 31 Beta. This release contains quite a few improvements.
Restyled Discover feature
After the positive feedback to our improved bookmark manager, we decided to implement its style in the Discover feature. Now, its categories list is on the left, similar to the visual bookmarks setup. Language and country settings are now found under the Settings option.
Speed up on slower devices
We have also made some improvements to speed up the browser, especially for devices using traditional hard drives. We eliminated multiple reads and writes of the same data during the start, so we use access to the drive more efficiently.
There is also another very important change on Windows. Most of the code from the executable file been moved to the dynamic library. Instead of relying on the system algorithm of loading smaller chunks of the EXE file, we have written code to load bigger parts of the DLL. This technique of DLL preloading reduces time to access to the hard-disk drive.
Typed history synchronization
We are continuing our efforts to deliver even more synchronization options. This release allows you to sync your typed history, so you can get your content faster."

We users are still contending with the disaster of Opera 30. It seems it never got out of Beta but was dumped on us any way. Will 31 be more of the same?

Hi Opera. Thanks for the update here. Do you have any idea when videos like this one will be playable on Windows 7, 32-bit systems? Thank you, again. http://shoebat.com/2015/06/03/breaking-cnn-reports-pamela-geller-target-of-beheading-attack-then-asks-her-if-she-relishes-being-the-target/
Other browsers on my system that play this video with no hitches at all are Vivaldi, Chrome, Firefox, PaleMoon, and Internet Explorer. None of the most recent versions of Opera (that includes Stable, Beta, and Developer) play this video or others like it. Why not? I've been asking this question for 4 weeks now with no answer.
If I right-click on the video display image at this website and click on "View frame source" and examine the source code, I do find this link which does play fine in Opera when I copy and paste this link into another tab: https://d2ha22j8ys3e0o.cloudfront.net/vmplayer/player.swf?video_id=2421779&domain=vid.me&c=598-1-9-4 ... hopefully, somebody can troubleshoot this.

Would be great to select sources you want to have in discover and which you don't want to see like duckduckgo app on android does it

The video mentioned in treego's post plays fine here in Opera developer 32, under Windows XP 32 bit, so whatever the problem was it looks as if it may well be fixed in the latest version of Opera.

The H.264/MP4 video at http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html does not play here in any of the current Opera branches available on my Windows 7 32-bit system, either.
I'm hoping one day that Opera's issues with such videos will be resolved. I really want to use Opera exclusively but have to fall back to other browsers which have no such issues all too commonly.

Hi treego, both videos are playing without any problems with Opera 31 beta (31.0.1889.92) on my Windows 8.1 32bit system.
Maybe its a problem with Windows 7? -

The Opera 31 has been promoted to the stable channel: 31.0.1889.99
The change log, and the announcement: "Opera 31 speeds up".
"The most import change we’re introducing in Opera 31 is its startup time. Opera for computers now starts up to 70% faster in comparison to previous versions. This is especially important and helpful for devices with slower, traditional hard drives.
Discover gets a makeover
We redesigned pages in Opera for computers so everything looks nice and modern. In Opera 31, Discover gets a better layout. Discover is a feature that serves you the most recent content from your region. You can also customize it by choosing topic category or country.
Tip: One of our favourite categories is Gaming. Follow it and you will never miss the hottest premiere or rebirth of a classic.
and more…
We are working on improved synchronization, with additional options, across your devices. This release synchronizes typed history between your desktop devices. Now you can get to your history faster."
