Click-to-play HTML5 video element

Is there any chance to apply the click-to-play feature to native <video> elements? Or a switch in the settings to override the autoplay attribute and never start a playback without user interaction?
I have a browsing habit for 10+ years. I like to go through a page and open links in the background, then read them. I like to do it also with videos, and since I can use the HTML5 player on Youtube, it's a pain to browse, because I have to open a video and stop it, before I can open another.
I know it is a Youtube issue, but this behavior can spread in the future. And I don't think it would be hard to deal with it.

It is not only youtube issue. I have plugins set to click, but some pages just start playing embedded videos - apparently these are html5 ones. I don't need that video anyway, I'm interested in article near video.

Opera already has that feature for plugins. Go to settings > sites > plugins > click to play
