When I start Opera the first mail it starts with since a couple of weeks is one of my older mails (always the same).
This leads me to the conclusion that the behaviour is stored somewhere. Is it possible to configure that Opera mail starts with the last read mail? If so where can I find the setting of this behaviour.

      Thanks for your help

When you close a message list/view, Opera saves the selected message so that when you open that view again, that same message is still selected. Opera just works automatically like that.

Before you close a view / close Opera, you can ctrl + click the currently-selected item in the list so that no item is selected. Then, when you open that view again, it'll jump to the top or bottom (depending on list sorting).

Besides that though, I'm not sure what you can do. But, you should click the slanted wrench icon at the top right of the mail window and set "mark as read" to manually. Then, only mark messages read when you've actually read them. Then, make use of "All Messages/Unread" to start off with messages you haven't taken care of yet.

OK found a way to solve this.
Obviously sessions are saved in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Opera Mail\OperaMail1_0\sessions\autopera.win
When I delete the autopera.win and .bak file and restart mail new session save files will be created.
