Hi,
I found a bug when I updated Opera 28.x to the last version: the icon or logo on the start menu and on the window from the toolbar is missing.
Just see:

Any suggestion?
Thx.

Can you right click on the shortcut and select "change icon"?
If so, where does it point?
If it's pointing to something it can't find I don't know why that should be, but you should be able to correct it manually to point to launcher.exe in the Opera folder.

Yeah... trying something like that (with trial and error, pin & unpin) and I was able to solve it.
Thx again.

Glad you fixed it, but I've no idea why it happened in the first place!

But it is not the first time that happen to me and I bet it will happen again with the next update. The first time that happen, I just made a new fresh install to be able to fix it.
I don't know if it's related but I have 2 separate folders: 28.0.1750.40 and 28.0.1750.48. Why?
Normally, an update will merge older files and the newer ones into the same folder.

That seems to be normal behaviour for Chromium/Blink based browsers.
Google Chrome and Vivaldi do the same.
An update generates a new folder with the name of the update version, the previous one is kept, and the one before that is deleted, so you always have the current version and the previous version.
I guess this is so it can be rolled back easily if there is a catastrophic problem found with the new version, although I've never seen this actually happen.

In Opera's case, the shortcuts always point to launcher.exe, which is in the folder above the version folders.
This should never change, although the version of launcher.exe can and does change of course, it's still in the same place after the update, so shortcuts and their associated icons should not be affected.
Why they were in your case is a mystery!
