"File System" folder on Mac?

I noticed a large folder within Opera's data (I am using Mac, so ~/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.Opera/). The folder was called "File System" and the file within it that was almost 2 gigabytes was titled "0001". I deleted the File System folder and the Cache and it seems to be at a reasonable size now. But what I wish to know is what is the File System folder and why did it get so large?

Have you down- or uploaded a large file to a file hosting service like Mega? The folder comes from the File API and is created by a website you’ve visited.
