Speed dial looks bad when Opera 27 is starting. If you have a large number of thumbnails it takes quite a long time. In earlier Opera versions speed dial loading was almost instant.

Type opera//:flags in the address bar and change it to the other speed dial version.

#1 type opera://flags/ in the address bar if you cant, go to opera://settings/ delete //settings/ type //flags/ now you can access to opera://flags/
#2 search for Experimental start page and turn it on (the start page will look like new startpage in opera 26 except the navigation still at the bottom0
          #3 restart opera

I don't appear to have the Experimental start page option in Opera 27. However under the "Start page" options, un-checking "Use big Speed Dial thumbnails" did the trick.

            EDIT
Unfortunately it hasn't helped after all. Sorry for any confusion.

            EDIT AGAIN
Okay I have found the Experimental start page and have tried what you suggested tankietopera1907, unfortunately it's still not making any difference as the OP has reported.

I know the trick with "opera://flags". It is not about the new or old speed dial. I know that the new has some issues and now is disabled by default. But I wrote about ANOTHER problem with Opera 27: about thumbnails loading - they are loading one by one when browser is starting. It takes too much time when you have a lot of thumbnails 😞

That is an exact description of how my thumbnails are loading too, now I'm using Opera 27.

I wonder if it's anything to do with the Bookmarks, as they all have thumbnails now which need to load as well? all more work for the pc to do surely?

On my pc it appears every Speed dial thumbnail I save gets automatically saved in Bookmarks too. This means every Speed dial I save adds two more thumbnails to the browser, not just the one.

I also have the same problem with Speed Dial after updating to ver. 27 (slow rebuild of icons). Hope that they correct it soon - it's annoying for such a great browser to have a step backwards.

Opera 27 is a regression in some ways. My favorite "new" speed dial has issues (dark nested thumbnails in Opera 27 - in Opera 26 everything was OK). Speed dial loads slowly in Opera 27 only...

As has been posted many time on the forums in the last few days you can change this in the flags page. Type opera://flags in the address bar, use the built in search field on the left side of the screen to look for experimental, change the default setting on the one item that should show up to its non-default option, restart the browser. You should now have the same speed dial page as Opera 26.

Lando242, have you read this thread carefully? This thread is about something else. We all know about opera://flags. 😉
