H.264 video and MP3 Audio is widely used on the internet. With Opera beta 25 you will have native access to such media content. This feature has higher system requirements than the rest of Opera: Windows Vista or newer, OS X 10.9 or newer, and on Linux you need ffmpeg version 2.3.x or newer.¨

I have version 2.4 installed and there is no way to play MP3 on Soundcloud or similar websites.

You will have to restart Opera after enabling that option.

I don't understand, Opera Desktop Team's Blog says all Linux users need is ffmpeg, what am I missing here?

Ah!, do you have the pepper flash (PPAPI) plug-in installed ?, Opera 25+ now only works with that version of the flash plug-in.

PPAPI installed and flash works fine

The blog post is incorrect, it actually only works with ffmpeg 2.3.x currently (so not with 2.4). This is because ffmpeg does not maintain binary compatibility between versions (2.3.x is not binary compatible with 2.4.x).

yes, the developer version works now, the post here was for the beta version, let's hope the new beta will have it fixed.

These instructions should allow you to get h.264 video and mp3 audio running on any modern distro with very little effort. They inform you how to simply compile your own version of FFmpeg 2.3.x, such that it will not clash with any version you currently have installed. I also explain how to remove the self compiled version at a later date should you need to. Numerous people have tested this instructions and been able to get things working.

i'm using the Beta version. i can play soundcloud tracks now, but only it seems podcasts. probably in a different format
