No mail or notification sounds in Ubuntu 12.04. Anyone know a fix?

Hi. I set my mail & notification sounds in Opera 12.16 but don't hear anything at all when mail arrives or when I click test. All the sounds are .wav format. I'm using Elementary OS Luna which uses Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on the backend. Thanx.

This trick works with pulseaudio after the app is opened, just stop and start it.
pulseaudio -k
pulseaudio --start

I'm not sure if Opera uses ALSA or pulseaudio but you could try a similar trick with Opera. Just a guess.
