The Bookmark Importer is only designed (so far) to import your bookmarks from a previous Opera version. It's name is a bit misleading anyway, as the user's bookmarks should be imported already on installing the new version. What the "Bookmark Importer" actually does is allow the user to selectively import bookmarks to either the speed dial or the Quick Access Bar (aka Bookmarks Bar).

I read somewhere that to import Chrome bookmarks you just have to copy the bookmarks file, but I could not see how to do that for SRWare Chrome Iron, which is the only version of Chrome that I have installed.

The location of your Opera profile can be found from Help, About Opera. That's where you would copy the bookmark file to.

Well, this is information I've not heard before. My bookmarks were not imported already, although the "bookmarks importer" recognizes the files they're in (doesn't say where they are). And it says "Bookmarks inside a folder will be merged into one Speed Dial folder.", OK, inside what folder, as my bookmarks are in many folders. Would I just hit each individual folder's convert button, avoiding the top one, as it contains all the folders? And how many speed dial folders can be created? And where's the option via the importer to import them to the QAB? I don't see that mentioned anywhere...

And if I wished to delete any of the bookmarks inside various folders, how would that be done?
And why doesn't Opera Help explain all this?

I have just switched back to Opera on my Mac, having used Chrome for a while. I'm pleased to get my speedy bloat-free browsing back, but like many people I'm distressed by the loss of bookmarks. I enabled the QAB and copied my Chrome bookmarks file into my Opera profile. That worked a treat for the QAB -- it picked up all the bookmarks I had on the toolbar in Chrome. Very happy with that.

But like many people I also had some bookmarks in Chrome that were not on the toolbar, they were in folders accessed via "Other bookmarks", which appeared on the Chrome toolbar but doesn't appear on the QAB. They are there in the bookmarks file I coped from Chrome, but I can't find a way of accessing them. Is there any way of getting the top-level Other Bookmarks folder to appear on the QAB? Or even on Speed Dial? I think that might solve the problem. NB I don't mind doing a bit of hacking of files if necessary.
