Optimal settings to reduce battery drain when using VPN?

Hello everyone, happy to join the community.
I have recently switched to Opera for Android as my default browser (migrating from Chrome) because I really appreciate the built-in ad blocker and the free VPN feature. The browsing experience has been very smooth so far.
However, I have a quick question for the veteran users here regarding optimization. I noticed that when I leave the VPN enabled, the background battery usage seems a bit higher than usual on my device (I am currently using a Samsung S23).
- Does the VPN maintain a constant "keep-awake" state even when the browser is minimized?
- Are there specific settings in "Data Savings" or specific
opera://flagsthat you recommend tweaking to balance privacy and battery life?
I want to keep the protection on, but I also want to ensure I am not missing any obvious configuration tricks.
