Why no native titlebar?

I despise when applications do their own titlebars that break many things, including the theming, consistent layout and look of common interface components, and things like the standard right-click menu.
I have spent 15 minutes searching in settings and on Google to find out that the Opera devs have taken the incomprehensible decision to NOT allow us to use the native titlebar and borders.
This aggravates me enough to not want to use Opera anymore, and I will probably remove it, but before I do, I would really love to understand what went on in the minds of the people that decided that OS UI standards are there to be wholly ignored?

It's worse than just that. There are no corner resize handles on KUbuntu Linux, only on the sides and top and bottom, making resizing a window a 2 step process. Then there's the ongoing, multi-year joke that is getting videos on Facebook, etc to work and ending up with constant page crashes instead.
