Custom Instructions for Aria – Enhancing Personalization and Mindfulness

Hey Opera team!
Aria is a fantastic addition to Opera’s ecosystem, bringing AI-powered assistance directly into the browsing experience. However, to truly align with the principles of mindfulness and intentionality, I believe Aria would greatly benefit from a custom instructions feature, similar to the "Custom Instructions" available in some AI models.
Why is this important, especially in the context of mindfulness? Because consistency and personalization reduce cognitive load and improve focus. Right now, every interaction with Aria starts fresh, requiring users to rephrase their expectations, style preferences, or recurring needs. By allowing users to define persistent communication settings—such as preferred tone, depth of answers, or even specific interests—Aria could provide a much more seamless and efficient experience.
Imagine being able to predefine:
Preferred level of detail in responses (brief, medium, or in-depth)
Specific topics of interest (e.g., prioritizing coding, business insights, or mindfulness tips)
A preferred conversational style (formal, casual, structured, etc.)
Any recurring preferences (e.g., always summarizing long articles or formatting code snippets in a specific way)
This would allow users to interact with Aria in a way that feels intuitive, natural, and free from repetitive adjustments, making it a truly mindful AI assistant. Customization would also make Aria more effective for professionals, students, and everyday users who want their AI assistant to adapt to their needs rather than the other way around. Are there any plans to introduce this level of personalization in Aria? It would be a game-changer for mindful, distraction-free browsing and AI interactions!
Looking forward to your thoughts, and thanks for the continuous innovation!
Best,
Łukasz -

@MrTeatime
This suggestion of yours is very helpful.
I've seen a time when using summarise webpage, powered by Aria, on the Android version of Opera browser. My problem is that Aria will become professional with the summary and I don't like AI personnas that is too professional or too casual for me.
I like neutral personna, but anytime I try to summarise a webpage with Aria, Aria will be too professional for me unless I told it to be more casual.
This suggestion of yours will really make Aria more personalized, fixing this frustrating issue. -

@Chi-oma I’m really glad you found my suggestion helpful! Your experience perfectly illustrates why customization is so important—not everyone wants a super-professional or overly casual AI, and having to manually adjust it every time can be frustrating and disrupt the flow of work.
A customizable approach would fix this inconsistency, making Aria feel like a truly personal AI assistant that adapts naturally to each user’s preferences. Whether someone prefers a neutral, professional, or casual tone, they wouldn’t have to constantly remind Aria of their choice—it would just work the way they want from the start.
I really hope the Opera team takes this into account because it would elevate Aria’s user experience to a whole new level. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and fingers crossed that we see this feature in future updates!
