[All Browser] Click to Play for animated GIF

The one feature I still miss is “Click to Play” for animated GIF and animated JPEG¹. Pretty please. It would really be cool.

¹ Of course there are no animated JPEG. It is just an animated GIF file where the file extension has been changed to «.jpg». That way the file can be uploaded to sites which do not allow GIFs.

This is a fair option that might be useful when browsing high-gif intensity sites like tumblr.
If we're talking about animated image formats, it would be nice to see some full support for APNG. -

Would MNG not be the better option:

But then it makes no difference to my suggestion: “Click to Play” for all of them.

But it should show the first frame, not just the click to play box like the plugins.

@nekomajin. Good thinking.
And thanks to that nasty animated JPEG trick it is not good enough to just check the file extension anyway. You have to load and check the file itself to determine if it is an animated GIF. And once you have the file you can also display a frame as teaser.

And how would you identify if an image is acutally animated? -

And how would you identify if an image is acutally animated?Just like in O12: right click -> image properties.

opera mini can't view the animated weathersatellite images from prh.NOAA.gov's satellite page. It kicks it over to the crappy default browser to "view", note the download button doesn't work on my samsung tracfone, and I have to select to preview it as wallpaper to see a decent size when opera mini gives me the orignal size and I could just scroll around. A zoom out feature would also be nice. Although i need to explore using the shortcut keys.

Done exploring. *0 single column makes the whole image zoom out. I was trying out the landscape mode & there is no portrait shortcut to go back.

I think we need this for GIFs, animated WebP and last but not least HTML5 video tag with autoplay set.

You all are wrong
It'd be better if it were an option for the browser to render "plain show" as static and the full view will be on hover. If you're talking about like "GIF tables" of sorts...
Krischik, how did you do the superscript?
