Extension controls to the right of address bar vanishing

Hi. I noticed an irritant; after some time I notice the extension icon controls that appear to the right of the address bar vanish:

The top part of the image shows the issue. When that happens, there is a gap there but the controls are not there anymore. To get them back, I have to hit the cube then unpin any of them, then repin and voila it now appears as in the bottom of that image - with all icons restored.

Any idea what is going on there? Thanks!
