What happened to signing to sync with username?

Ok, I'm here on temporary account, and I logged in with my Google account.
I've been using Opera browsers (though mostly Opera Mini on Android) on desktop/laptop and Android devices for a loong time - I mean, I still have Opera Mobile for Maemo Linux on my Nokia N900 smartphone
But now I have a serious problem. I have just gotten a new phone, after over half a year without an Android device. I've only had this for 2 weeks now, and I use several different browsers for different reasons - so I had it installed, but hadn't opened it yet.
When I did, I naturally went straight to Settings, to set my preferences... and most importantly, set it to sync with my Opera account (which I don't think I have logged into since I lost my previous Android phone).
I don't, and can't remember all the different account login credentials, because there's hundreds of them, and I prefer to not use the same password on every one, so I use BitWarden password manager (and much more than just that). The thing is, my entry for user account to opera.com (and everything related) doesn't have an email address; there's just username (robsku) and password (which I won't share here), and those are what I've always used to log into the forums, browser syncing, etc.
And now I'm suddenly confronted with a login page that demands I enter an email address. I tried my two current email addresses, plus one old that was configured to just forward my emails to my current main email address (it still might, have no idea) when to guy hosting it couldn't host a proper email server on his home server. Anyway, the login page had a red text under the email field saying it was an invalid entry, no matter which one I wrote to it. Didn't even let me submit it.
And there's no option to log in using username. If I remember correctly, it used to ask for username OR email address, and I guess when I created the account - before I had a password manager - it felt easier to use my username, then when I got a password manager (originally LastPass), it got stored when I logged in with browser, and it asked whether I want to save those login credentials. So no email address ever got stored, just username and password.What do I do? Please help! I don't want to lose those bookmarks!
