What specific version of Opera as shown at the URL opera://about?

Do you get a crash ID for the crash?

Maybe your session files are corrupted. You can goto the URL opera://about, take note of the "profile" path, close Opera and delete the "Sessions" folder in the profile folder. This will wipe out all windows and all tabs in all workspaces and wipe out all tab islands etc. But, it might fix the crashes.

@burnout426 I tried deleting the sessions folder, it didn't help. When I look at the opera://crashes page the crash id is marked as discarded.

@theelderwyrm said in Opera Crashes Whenever a Window is Closed:

          discarded

Even after setting the OPERA_CRASH_EMAIL environment variable and restarting Opera?

@theelderwyrm I can't test this myself, but while Opera is closed, open up a terminal, type:

              export MY_VARIABLE='you@example.com'

              and press enter.

              Then, type:

              open -a "Opera"

to start Opera and then get it to crash.

Once Opera crashes and closes, type:

              open -a "Opera"

to open it back up and go back to the URL opera://crashes to see if there's then an ID for the crash. Reload the opera://crashes page multiple times if needed.

@burnout426 If I did all that correctly, this should be the ID: CrashID=5be401cb-2d22-4c30-a1a3-b163f2240424

@theelderwyrm Thanks. Will let you know if the crash data hints at what the problem is and if it's something you can work around.

Meanwhile, while Opera is closed, you could rename "/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.Opera/" to "/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/com.operasoftware.OperaBad/" to start all over with completely-fresh data in Opera to test if that stops the crash or if it continues.

@burnout426 One other thing I noticed when trying to get the crash ID- The crash tends to happen specifically in full screen. Additionally, the crash happens more often if you quickly close the window after opening it, though it can still happen even when that is not the case.

@theelderwyrm The ID matches a crash that's already reported internally by Opera. So, you're not alone in getting the crash. The cause has not been figured out yet, but it has something to do with the sidebar and one of the items docked on it.

Do you have any sidebar extensions installed that add an icon to the sidebar?

Do you have workspaces enabled and how many besides the default 2?

Have you added any custom site panels to the sidebar using the "Custom user sites for browser sidebar" flag at the URL opera://flags/#sidebar-site-panel?

Click the 3 dots at the bottom of the sidebar, what are the exact settings for everything and what things are enabled/disabled?

Do you have any of your sidebar apps pinned where you are then opening a private window and then closing it?

On the sidebar I have several work stations (six to be exact), chatGPT, the player, My Flow, bookmarks, histroy, settings, and five websites. Also, my sidebar is set to automatically hide if that matters. Also, in your last reply you said private window, but it crashes no matter the type of window.

By the way, thanks for your help.

@theelderwyrm Okay. The crash just got fixed internally. Will let you know when a build comes out with a fix so you can test that your specific crash is gone too.
