Maybe it's a scaling issue as my laptop has updated and still has the button at the top ?
It's on my 4k screen it's disappeared -

@oldfan mouse middle click in space at top opens start page i think always worth checking what mouse wheel click does and maybe if opera made people aware of this instead of just removing an existing method, that would be nice.

I created a favorite speed dial button and put it on the favorites bar.
address : opera://startpageshared.
I wish my workaround could be placed on the address bar instead so that it looks more like the original.
Edit: I just found out the original speed dial button is hidden in the sidebar. That's embarrassing.

@kevdotkrizzle This works, although the way they had it was better of course. Thanks.

@peterib70 Same issue here.
Its so hard use a web browser without a home button.
Speed dial could replace the home button, but need to be placed closer to directional arrow buttons. -

Sure, but you're giving up space on your desktop to make that "favorites bar" visible. There remains the unanswered question - how does removing it benefit Opera or the user?

Well, after fiddling with this start page mess for a few days, I better understand the behavior. I hate it, and it's not productive, but I hate it.
In a world where having many tabs open is a problem, Opera perpetuates the problem. There doesn't seem to be a way to go to the start page (speed dials) IN an open tab. One must click the + or the speed dial button in the sidebar (at the bottom left) which is both highly counterintuitive and requires you orient yourself from the address bar to find it.
Pinning the start page to the tab bar works the first time, but doesn't allow for opening the start page again in that tab.
I was an early adopter and moved away from IE, Chrome, Firefox and Edge. And this simple but profound change has me looking, once again, for a browser that is productive for me.

@tastodd said in Start Page button is missing in Opera 101.0.4843.25:
The "start page button" has been moved to the sidebar
Thanks, but It's so unusual. I have never used the sidebar. Why the Opera refused the Start Page/Home button in the address bar?

@gateau Great. But when I paste opera://startpageshared into the address field it opens the start page but I don't see any way to pin it. Or make a bookmark. How do we create that on our machines? Thanks.

@leocg They do, however, have a start button. Maybe they should allow actual users to decide whether they want such a button or not. Why should I have to close a current tab then open another, to get the start page? It's a waste of time and effort (albeit a small one). Imposing your choices on users is a sure way to lose them.
