      Hi

I hope I am posting in the right place.

I am setting up a new machine for a friend who has Outlook 2003 but which cannot be installed on the new machine as the licence does not allow this.

I have suggested using Opera Mail but cannot seem to find a way of exporting emails from Outlook 2003 in a format that I can them import into Opera mail on the new machine.

Is there a way of doing this?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Does Outlook 2003 still use .pst files? If so, you have to find a .pst to mbox converter. Then, you can set up the accounts in Opera Mail and then use "Menu -> settings -> import and export -> import mail -> import generic mbox" to import into that account.

For IMAP accounts, you don't do any importing. You just set them up in Opera.

You might try importing into Thunderbird first. Then, you can import from there to Opera Mail (as Thunderbird stores its folders of messages in mbox files). But, Opera Mail is an experimental, unfinished, buggy product that isn't being worked on anymore. It's just the Opera 12.16 browser with some browser parts hidden (and lots of missing settings). So, one could just use the Opera browser just for mail by setting the https and http protocols in "Alt + P -> advanced -> programs" to open in the default browser. However, Opera has abandoned Opera 12 and started a new browser that doesn't have a mail client.

In short, Thunderbird would probably be better.

If you do want to import from Thunderbird to Opera Mail, see here and here.

Using Opera Mail as email client is tough for me as its critical user interface make me my hair rip off. On every error I need to call a technical expert to solve my issue. To resolve my problem I decided to migrate from Opera to Outlook. For migration I need a professional MBOX converter as both email tools has different file format. Opera mail has MBOX format and Outlook has PST format. I used Stellar MBOX to PST file converter software and migrate easily from opera Mail to Outlook mailbox and would suggest every user to opt this tool for smooth and risk free MBOX to PST migration.
