Opera for a kiosk

Hello,

I have All-In-One Lenovo with touch display and Windows 7 OS. I want to use this device as a kiosk. So I tried old Opera (12 I think) in kiosk mode, it`s pretty good, but could be better We want to use this kiosk for students and students are really ingenious They found shortcut on the touch keyboard which minimizes Opera and that`s the problem...

So is there any possibility to block minimizing or closing the browser to the desktop? And to block all downloads? We want to let students browsing, but we want to block access to the desktop and to block downloads.

It's hard to find help on kiosk mode now. Try the Advanced Search and see what you can discover. I could not find the official help page, which used to list command line switches.

I found http://web.archive.org/web/20130223014915/http://www.opera.com/support/mastering/kiosk/ and it works fine. But there is a problem with closing the Opera with Windows shortcuts on touch keyboard.

Somebody tells me that I can replace standard Windows shell by the Opera. So there won`t be classic shell (classic desktop) so students can~t go to the desktop. Is it possible?

Put the Windows Operating System into Kiosk mode, not just Opera.

Windows XP and Windows 8 (8.1) is not supported systems. I have to use Windows 7.

But I wrote a script which works fine a resets full screen mode. But I have another problem. When I use parameter /kioskresetstation, it shows confirmation window and that`s the problem. Because this confirmation window takes the focus and my script automatically kill and start Opera. Can I disable this confirmation window?

You have two separate, but related issues: putting (and keeping) Opera in kiosk and full-screen modes, and putting (and keeping) Windows in kiosk mode. Opera is an application program running on an OS, and unless you bullet-proof the OS as well, anything Opera does to protect its kiosk mode can be bypassed through the operating system... as you've noted. Either you have to block the OS from being directly called by keyboard, or you have to accept that the application (Opera) can be closed but block the user from doing anything else but reopening it. Unless you elect to use an optional software program to support kiosk operations, what you can do in Windows 7 directly is limited to disabling interactive shutdown, log-off, locking the station, and switching user accounts. http://blogs.technet.com/b/keithmayer/archive/2012/08/03/building-public-kiosk-stations-with-windows-7-and-windows8-itpro.aspx
