Export Speed Dial from Opera 18

I started this post with a rant, but now I'll put it at the end so you can read it if you want. Bottom line is I need/want to get my speed dial exported as something that I can import into FireFox or Chrome or some other browser. I have found a vague reference to using Chrome to achieve this for QAB:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1798002
I assume he's referring to what I already figured out which is if you move the 'bookmarks' and 'bookmarks.bak' files from %appdata%\Opera Software\Opera Stable to %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default (I think those are correct) Chrome then will read your opera bookmarks file and then you can use Chrome's export function. This, however, does not get me the speed dial or stash.I noticed that all of my speed dial items are in %appdata%\Opera Software\Opera Stable\favorites.db and, as a database guy I could write a program that would get my data out, but I don't really want to go down that road as I don't really have the time for this. Please if there's an extension or hidden function somewhere let me know. This browser just isn't cutting it for my day-to-day and I have a whole year's worth of new bookmarks that I've added since I switched that I'd love to get out.
<Rant>
I adopted the chromium-based opera almost a year ago when it first launched as stable, and moved entirely to it on my work PC. At home I'm a linux guy and have stayed with Opera 12 assuming that either a bink-based Linux version would come out, or they'd at least turn Opera Link on and I could sync my bookmarks between work, phone, tablet and home PC. Alas, my faith in Opera was misplaced and almost a year later I'm still struggling with no real hope that I can continue to use Opera, at least not until they re-implement some of my favorite features (TAB STACKS!). I want out (for now), but, due to my reliance on all of my bookmarks, I cannot leave for greener pastures without hours and hours of work opening my bookmarks in one place, copy and pasting the URL and re-bookmarking. Please HELP ME!

As of today I have had 82 views and 0 replies. I have to assume that this means that to date there is no way to get my speed dial collection out of here. Like so many users of a once great program, I am at my end. I cannot use something with this level of lock-in that doesn't support my platform of choice and doesn't offer the feature set that I require. I know that I'll try opera again some day, but for now this is not a viable solution for me. I'm sad to go, but I cannot use a feature-incomplete browser when three are so many feature-complete alternatives; loyalty eventually runs out.

I empathize with your situation. It's my personal belief that one of the key essentials for a browser should be ease of fully importing and exporting personal data in at least "generalized" formats, and the new Opera versions have seriously lagged in that regard. There are likely developmental constraints and pressures that have placed other things at higher priority, but that doesn't help users get data in/out of the version easily should they need to... which, in turn, impairs many users from leaning very heavily on the browser in the first place. It's one of the several points holding me back (at Opera 12.14 and Firefox 26) from adopting the New Opera versions.
In going forward from this point, it would be good to keep in mind that a number of the popular browsers face significant upgrades in the next year or so, so you may conceivably face something like this again elsewhere. It all depends on how radical are the redesigns, and how the developers prioritize data exchange. About all I can suggest is to not get burned this way again... make sure at the outset that the browser allows full import/export of personal data (adequate to your needs), and be careful of auto-updates that might swap in a radically newer version that lacks that capability. I do wish there was something more constructive that I could offer, but I'm not personally aware of anything to help out your situation. I strongly suspect that's the same reason your posts received views, but not replies.

I guess I'm not alone on this but they have run me off too. Opera use to be the bomb now I can't do what I want. I'll just have to copy the bookmarks one by one.

You bump a post thats over a year old and then don't even tell us what specifically the problem is? What are you expecting to get out of this? Its not like the devs come in here and read the support forums.
If the question is about transferring your bookmarks and speed dial there are several ways of doing it from one instance of Opera to another. If you want to transfer it to another browser there are extensions that allow that.
