I have 2 QUESTIONS before I give details >>>>> I amusing Win XP and Opera 12.16 >>>>>>
1) I read some posts before posting this message and one person posted this = Opera 18 Bookmars/Toolbar/Quick Access Bar Gone?
I assume the QUICK ACCESS BAR is the bunch of icons at the top of my Opera screen and which is separate from BOOKMARKS.I give one click to go to a site. True that this has been removed ??2) In the past, Opera would pop up messages about a NEW version is available..........I no longer get them.........every time I clicked on HELP and CHECK FOR UPDATES = I got a message saying I am using the LATEST version of Opera..........see the rest below >>>>>>
I am running Win XP with Opera 12.16.
In the past, Opera would always alert me to a NEWER version is available.
I have made NO changes to any settings in Opera over all the previous versions I've used.
When there was a newer version, I just clicked INSTALL and Opera did its thing.When I click on About Opera, I get this information >>>>>>

However when I click on CHECK FOR UPDATES - Opera says I am using the LATEST version already.
Yet, when I go to FILE HIPPO ( download site ), I find all these NEWER versions of Opera >>>>

They decided not to autoupdate Opera 12.16 users, because Opera 15+ is basically developed from scratch. They replaced the engine with blink (the engine of Google chrome) and had to discard the old graphical user interface, because it was probably to coupled to the presto-engine. Until now Opera 18 is still missing some features users of Opera 12.16 would like to see and therefore autoupdate for 12.16 users is still disabled. Maybe they change that later, when they think Opera 15+ has done enough progress.
But you can update to Opera 18 on your own if you want to. This is your decision depending on which features you need.

http://www.opera.com/help/computerM2 (the Opera mail client) is now a standalone application. The RSS-Reader, which was basically part of M2 is therefore also removed from the Opera Browser. But there is a nice extension, which adds that feature to Opera 15+:

Because Opium (Opera 15+) is crap and they (Opera ASA) know it. SCNR
Opera 12.16 is still latest "real" Opera (and probably won't get any update anymore). If you want to try the Chrome-alike, go ahead and download it from the website (of your choice) and get meaningless updates every few weeks. You might understand the problems some people have with the new version better then.

1. Opera ASA managed to confuse not only you but every user who isn't a regular of these forums.

All Opera versions till/including 12.xx are the same product. All Opera versions from/including 15 upwards are a different product.
The resemblances between Opera 12.xx and Opera 15 (and upwards) are alike the resemblances between Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer. More precisely, none except the fact that all are browsers.2.
Most of the sites that offer software for download have (user) rated their offerings through some stars.
Opera 12.xx has quite good ratings on such sites.
Imagine Opera ASA would have given a distinct new name to their new product, starting with version number 1.
It wouldn't have inherited the favorable user ratings of the old product and would have to start with its own merits.
Besides, users already using Opera would have been warned that it is a totally new product.
How many stars would you give Opera 18? Don't need to tell me. My question was only rhetorical to give you an idea.
With poor ratings (stars) very few people would download a software even for testing.
On the other hand, as it stands, even good ratings can't be a guaranty for the software you are downloading. -

Nope. Neither do I have industry sources nor do I know a whistle blower from Opera ASA. So, you can call it Krake's wild guess
