12.15 forces Google as search engine

As it already has been stated previously in this topic the browser is resetting to whatever search engine is default in your location.
If you install in Russian locale it'll reset to Yandex upon restart so no Opera isn't forcing people to Google nor merging with them in any form.

My scrying crystal is hazy regarding any future merger. There have been, however, changes made in the past that do point to the Google-Opera relationship as being a bit more than "friendly". Revenue from Google obliterated Opera's need for other commercial sponsership and, by contract, Google is the Opera default search engine in parts of the world. The following is an extensive quote (without footnote references) from the Wikipedia entry regarding Opera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_web_browser)
On 12 February 2013, Opera announced it would drop its Presto engine and transition its web browsers to use WebKit as implemented by Google's Chrome browser by means of code from the Chromium project. Opera Software also planned to contribute code to WebKit as well. On 3 April 2013, Google announced that it would fork components from WebKit to form a new rendering engine known as Blink; the same day, Opera confirmed that it would follow Google in implementing Blink.
On 28 May 2013, a beta release of Opera 15 was made available, notable as being the first version based on the Chromium project. Many distinctive features of the previous versions are no longer present, while Opera Mail has been split into a standalone application derived from Opera 12.
Although there is no direct indication that a merger shall occur (perhaps due to anti-trust laws) there is reason for concern.

@MLee1 please read my post above, don't ignore it. BTW Opera 15 is out and it lets you easily switch the default to Bing, Yahoo! or Yandex in selected markets.

"by contract, Google is the Opera default search engine in parts of the world."
The above is understandable. However, defaults are capable of and can be changed.
Startup screen, media player, image editor, html editors, font sizes on the monitor, BROWSERs, etc.
Google can be the default to comply with the contract. Just add ixquick to the list of search engines that ship with Opera. Its a simple fix.
Rebooting the browser should not return the shipped default. If Opera cannot make the addition, then thats proof Google has become too big and has become the bully of the Internet or has controlling interest of Opera.
Google copied tabbed browsing from Opera for Chrome, like most other browsers have, perhaps Google just wants everything because their writers have lost their ability to think and generate new ideas and concepts.
Opera is the ONLY browser that defaults to Google upon a restart. Thats not a good thing and reveals that Opera no longer has control over their product.
We are wasting out time making these posts. Time to find another browser.

rafaelluik;
I have not ignored your earlier posting. In the face of actual occurrence your flat denial regarding Google's meddling with Opera is not a real defense - it is an expression of your opinion. That is fine; you are entitled to you opinion, but, based on actual events of the past, not an opinion that I share.
I agree with DesertOutlaw "We are wasting out time making these posts. Time to find another browser." -

One more time and for the last time I'm repeating this: as said previously if Opera 12.15 is installed in Russian locale it'll default back to Yandex on restart, as said previously most of the users here are able to set the other search engines that come with Opera as default and the setting won't be reset upon restarting. The bug only affects users that add and set as default search engines not present in any of the default search engine lists files. If you can't understand this simple thing and somehow you can link the fact a search engine resetting TO DIFFERENT ONES IN DIFFERENT LOCALES to a SPECIFIC ONE company acquiring or "commanding" Opera Software, please just leave this thread now.
This is not my "opinion". It resets to Yandex in the Russian market. This is not my "opinion". If Google is meddling in Opera then they're failing completely at it since in Russia one of their main competitors is becoming default after restart (Yandex) and you can also easily switch to Bing, Yahoo! or even DuckDuckGo since it's included in one of the default search engine lists and it won't be reset to Google after restart, even Opera 25 lets you do that. Your logic doesn't make sense, not mine.

Found a resolution that works for making ixquick the search engine for Opera without Google being set as the default after a restart.
1. Type "opera:config" in the url window
2. Type "google" in the quick find search
3. Enter "https://ixquick.com/" in the field for "Google2011 Location Provider" under "Geolocation"
4. Enter "ixquick.com" in the field for "Google TLD Default" under "User Prefs"
5. Enter "https://ixquick.com/do/search?language=english&cat=web&query=" in the field for "Google TLD URL" under ""User Prefs"
6. Click Save
7. Type "https://ixquick.com/" in the url window
8. In the search window to the right of the url window, where Google appears, click on the downward arrow to reveal "Manage Search Engines" and select by clicking that selection
9. Highlight Google and delete
10. If ixquick is not shown, click "Add...' otherwise highlight ixquick and the Edit
11. Make sure Ixquick is in the field for the name
12 Make sure "ix" is the keyword
13. Click the Details button
14. Enter "http://ixquick.com/do/met.asearch.pl" in the field for "Address"'
15. Enter ""https://ixquick.com/do/search?language=english&cat=web&query=" for the "Query string"
16. Click the box before "Use POST" so a checkmark appears
17. Click the box before "Use as default search engine"
18. Click the box before "Use as Speed Dial search engine
19. Click the "OK" button
20 Make sure there is not a check in the box before "Enable search suggestions in the address field"
21. Click the "OK" button
22. Reboot Opera
If the above instructions are followed and there are no spelling errors (I use copy and paste or control C and control V as much as possible since I still use the hunt and peck method at 56 years of age), when Opera reboots, Ixquick will be the default search engine and Google will NOT appear in the list of search engines for the browser.
I am strong-headed and when I find something that works, and works well, I like to continue using it. Have been frustrated like many Opera users with some changes over the years but for many many reasons, it is still my browser of choice, especially since it can actually be customized unlike many browsers, and can perform many operation unavaible with other browsers.
Although I am strong-headed, I am not reluctant to admit when I make a mistake. The mistake I made was not visiting the forum before allowing the update to Opera to occur. Had I done so, a lot of frustration could have been avoided.
I appoligize to any volunteer and developer I may have upset.

No need. It's a bug: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=14130012
Thank you so much for finding a work-around. Have more
PS
Now I have to work out how to modify your fix for startpage search. Will report back if I manage. -

I already have startpage.com in my list of search engines. It seems all I had to to keep it as default was change "Google TLD Default" setting to "startpage.com" and "Google TLD URL" setting to "https://startpage.com/do/search". I don't use geolocation, so I just deleted the provider URL.

Moreover, after all being already said, the thing is also that it is absolutely not convenient to use this search bar (Opera 15). Do you have to go all the way back in order to search again for the same search phrase?
If you have it in the top right, without changing itself, you could easily just click one more time and to perform a second search, while in the case of Opera 15 you have to go back again to the first screen. I am sure that this is not an option for most of us, even when the Opera developers will fix the "Google" search issue.
Kind regards,
A.D.

What I don't like about the opera I hate to say is the tool bar add ons, etc. Or any browser tool bar add ons, it lags my butt. I have to keep removing it to keep my page like I want it. There has got to be a way to keep the tool bars d/l pop ups from jumping out at us to download it, it's very annoying.

"Are all of those steps necessary? Or are some of them just there because you don't want any traces of Google in your browser?"
Not all the steps are required. Removing Google for example is not required. However, I do not want anything to do with Google.
Of all the search engines available, Google collects and stores the most data, and that data is made available to the gov. The gov is suppose to be for the people but it is not that way anymore. The fed also operates only from $$$ collected from taxes, they do not earn, make or create any new money.
The gov originally set up departments to help the people. For example, the US Department of Transportation whose regional office in Kansas City cannot be reached by phone. However, since they are part of the gov, they can perform a query about me from the federal data base, much of which is provided by Google. Therefore, if I prevent Google from learning information about me, and I continue to use invalid information about myself when I do have to provide information, the US Department of Transportation who I cannot call, or even obtain the number from the Washington DC office, will not have accurate information about me. If the information being obtained, such as my IP address, was being used just for ads that appear following a search, I would not mind Google collecting the data. However, that is not the case.
The Google Chrome browser sends data home too. Another reason why I like Opera. Opera itself is not collecting personal information.
FYI, now that Google is out of my browser, Ghostery is working properly and the "Blocked Content..." feature in Opera is working properly too.

Adding Ixquick to the list of search engines and defining it as default worked. No need to take further steps, at least here.
Happy to have got rid of Google as default engine! -

The 12.16 update didn't fix the problem, yandex search comes back each restart even if I delete it from the list!

The problem is fixed for me. I had Google as the default, and setting another engine via the GUI as the default was preserved in the next session. -

Bug isn't fixed in 12.16. Deleted default Google search still shows up after restart.

That can mean two things: 1. they did that on purpose, 2. writing about bugs on this forum is useless. Or both.
