      I've tried searching for a solution but didn't manage to find an answer.
      I've now had it happen twice in a few days that my profile got reset as if I started Opera GX for the very first time. While closing I received an error message saying that my profile folder couldn't be accessed due to an access rights problem (I run an administrator account on Win10 and have full access to every folder so this seemed already to be a weird msg)

      Having had several occasions in the past where I lost my profile as a result of crashes I immediately made a backup copy of the profile folder, alas it seemed to be too late. When I restarted the browser, profile was gone and it started as a first install.

      I've put a lot of work in there, bookmarks, passwords, extension data (Stylus, Tampermonkey, etc) and all that is lost... This is a portable setup from portableapps.com and the profile still exists but it simply isn't loaded anymore.

      Is there a way to extract bookmarks, passwords and extension data (not the extensionsthemselves but the user added data such as user styles/scripts)
      So I can re-import those in a new pofile?

      The times this has happened to me I cannot even count on one hand but I always had a backup, but since I used GX for different things than my other browsers the profile contains data that doesn't already exist in my other browsers so I can't restore it from there.

        Opera GX has a portable option in its installer. I'd download Opera GX from opera.com, launch the installer, click "options", set "install path" to the folder you want, set "install for" to "standalone installation", uncheck "import data from default browser", and install. In the installation folder, the profile folder will be the data folder in the "profile" folder.

        I'd trust that more than the portableapps version. Might even handle crashes better as it sounds like when yours crashes, it no longer uses the profile thats there or something.

        With that said though, you can delete all the files in folders in the "data" folder of that standalone installation and put all the files and folders from your backup in there (use copies of the files and folders in the backup so you still have the originals). Then, you can start that Opera (via its launcher.exe) and see what survives as a test.

          That's often caused by corruption of files on your hard drive.

          Check your files with the system file checker. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system.

          Launch a command prompt as administrator and run chkdsk /r. Tell it to do a scan on startup and restart. The scan will take a long time.

          See what CrystalDiskInfo says about the status of your drive. It could be going bad, which could be cause some of the crashes.

            There's no bad spots on the disk, neither is there any file corruption, all this was already checked. There may be a file missing or damaged in the profile itself because some data didn't get written during closing of OperaGX but that is more an 'incomplete' state than actual corruption from a crash (it didn't crash, it just gave the msg about access rights which could just as well be caused by an erroneous file lock. Windows10 is known to sometimes have issues with file locks not being released properly.

            Be that as it may, whether or not a file is incomplete, the end result is always that the whole profile is deleted immediately after I start Opera and a fresh one is created. even in the 'standalone' version. This is something I have issues with... why kill everything just because (very likely) one file may be incomplete. So I've abandoned Opera as this has now happened one too many times... I'd rather use a browser that allows me to salvage things in such cases by simply copying in files of which I'm certain are complete
