Good morning,

I have a question.

I have a dell laptop (latitude E6540) And I want to upgrade the CPU (only 2 cores). I've made my research and find out that I can upgrade it but I can't go over 4 cores which is a problem to me.

An option would be to change the motherboard but I don't know where to find one that fit inside my computer and allow me to go with a more powerfull CPU.

Anyone can give a usefull answer to that ?

Hi,

You could use some Hardware Info tool to know the MB Model and search it online.

I've seen some Laptop models share the same one whitin a Laptop series but with some differences.

I have seen, it's an i7 4th Gen, so maybe there's no better combo.

Despite that,
You may consider to check a new laptop since the CPU and the MB would cost part of another but you'll be stuck also on old hardware.

Apart on battery capacity and screen quality.

Here, seems to be adding a QuadCore.

Now I've seen there's an i5 version, so not sure if yours is Dual or Quad.
