This site can't be reached - stable and beta 53

Under certain circumstances, can't download apk from apkmirror.com; instead,
"This site can't be reached" message is displayed. To reproduce:
With Opera ad blocking turned on, navigate to www.apkmirror.com
Choose any file to download and do the steps to get a "Download" button from the site.
Immediately press the download button (before the site displays a "wait" message due to ad blocking).
The "cannot be reached" message is displayed. The above is expected. The problem is that once this happens, the "site cannot be reached message is displayed even with ad blocking turned off, and apk files cannot be downloaded.
Verizon Ellipsis 10 rablet
Verizon Android 5.1
Opera 53.0.2569.141117
Also happens with beta 53; does not happen with stable 52.I've tried turning off data savings, clearing cache, and reinstalls.
FWIW, stable 52 does not display the site "wait" message, even with ad blocking turned on, so I'm guessing this has something to do with that feature.
Possibly related is a similar problem my wife had (identical device and configuration). "This site can.t be reached" message was consistently displayed when trying to access cmx.weightwatchers.com
Reinstall made that problem go away, but I reinstalled Opera 52 anyway, since she didn't want to chance having the problem when I was unavailable.

@kenriley001 With beta 54, the behavior is slightly different. Regardless of adblock setting, the "can't be reached" message frequently appears on the first attempt at download. Closing the tab or closing Opera, then retrying the download is successful.
It appears there is something peculiar about apkmirror. I have never been able to whitelist this site with Opera, and a Google search reveals this is a long-standing problem with some ad blockers.
