Opera 52.3 not saving passwords on Android?

Not sure why this is. I'm a new user of Opera and although I like it on the desktops I'm using it on I am finding it frustrating that it is not saving passwords.
At first I had a sync passphrase but read that Android didn't support that. So, ok, I reset sync data and set up sync again. Desktop Opera says I'm synchronized and it's working in the 'regular' way without a passphrase.
I clear data on the Android Opera and re-sign in to the opera sync. Passwords are checked (I toggled it on and off to make sure). Bookmarks came in but the 'Saved Passwords' area in Android Opera is still blank.
Why is that? Seems pretty fundamental to use the app.
