Opera 12 Mail: import old mail does not work

Thanks burnout426.
It's just two .mbs files about 5,5 Gb each.
I tried to open one in a text editor with no problems. The text was kind of messy but still recognizable.
I have successfully imported this old account years ago, but I cannot remember how...Should I try to import the entire folder in AppData\Local\Opera\Opera x64\mail\store? Should I re-export it? -

Try this first. After you add the mbs file in the import dialog and it doesn't show up, wait a while. Wait a couple hours if needed. Opera might be processing the file and taking a while because it's so big. If that solves it, note that the actual importing of messages will take a long time after that too.

The entire accountN folder (where N is the number for the account as seen in accounts.ini), yes. You can try that if the other thing doesn't work.
You can try re-exporting if you want just in case.
Another option is to look for an mbox file splitter on the net that will split the messages out of the large mbs file to separate ones. You can then put all the separate ones in a single folder and import that folder. It'd be kind of like importing from the mail\store\accountN folder. Just like importing from the accountN folder, it might be easier for Opera to process.

I tried this but Opera 12 does not seem to react. After I select the file and click open nothing really changes. Opera does not freeze or act as if it is doing anything. I could immediately select another file...
I will try and leave it there for one night, but I doubt it will work.@kalder said in Opera 12 Mail: import old mail does not work:

I think this is my second option. However, I fear I may loose the sent folder as they are not separate in the accountN folder, right? Any suggestions?

I will leave this a s third best. Any suggestion for a decent mbox file splitter?

Update:
I have tried to see whether Opera 12 reads the entire accountN folder. It does it relatively fast (after like a 5' freeze). However, I cannot see any sent folder. It only allows to dropdown select specific .mbs files (I guess the single email files) which is not very useful.I also tried to install and import in Thunderbird. TB successfully imported the original larg .mbs file...
Still puzzling... -

Yes. The sent messages are all in there mixed with others. You can try this trick after importing to get them as sent if you want.
If you imported them into Thunderbird's Inbox for example, you can close down Thunderbird and copy the "Inbox" file for the account in your Thunderbird profile directory. Then, you can try importing that instead. Maybe the import process in Thunderbird cleaned up some error or something that Opera doesn't like.

CutMbox is suggested by Thunderbird help pages. The link is supposed to be http://apveening.a61.nl/software/, but that's no longer active. I found it on Google at http://priede.bf.lu.lv/ftp/pub/Internets/pasts/CutMbox/, but I did not try it or anything.
I have one here that I made as a toy a long time ago. No guarantees on accuracy or anything, but you can try it to at least test how things go.

Thanks, but this seems to generate a miriad of mbx files equal to the number of messages, if I did not get it wrong. It would be equal to importing the accountN folder then.
I was hoping to fing a mbs splitter allowing to break the 5 gb files in, say, 4-5 chunks... -

Also the one that you made creates multiple files, one for each message. It looks this would not be different than importing accountN folder...Is there any way to avoid this?

Yes, pretty much the same.

Hmm, I'm not sure except to use Thunderbird to separate the messages into folders where you have som man thousand in each folder. Then, you could import all the folder mbox files like suggested earlier.

Yeah, it's possible that Opera is having an issue with the file size. But, it could be something else. Not sure. It could be as simple as the first line in the file not having a "From " line where Thunderbird's importer handles it better.

I have tried through Thunderbird (so I could remove duplicates, through a specific plugin, and correct the folder). Then selected and "saved as mbox" some chunks of the emails. Imported all chunks from former sent folder into sent and all the chunks from former inbox into inbox.
It takes a bit, but seems to work.
