Opera is slow, very slow

I’ve been using Opera for some time now on my iMac (together with Safari), and lately it became slow, very slow.
Loading websites takes up to ten times longer than doing the same in Safari.
How can I speed that up?
Any suggestions?
If not I will just remove Opera from my computer.
