I installed Opera Portable just to use VPN. On first launch, it import everything without asking.
I did not ask for this, I had to delete everything after that. This is privacy invasion. What the hell do you think you are doing?

The behavior is intentional. If you don't want it to import, click "options" in the installer and uncheck the box.

haha most users don't know this. I never seen a browser import data without permission, they always ask. Good luck with that privacy feature ^^

Sorry. I don't agree with the behavior either. It's just how it is unfortunately.

Alright, I will find a way to get Google to patch this and you might get legal issues

I strongly doubt that. First, because @burnout426 doesn't work for Opera; and second, because Google certainly has long known about the behavior of all their competitors' browsers.

@blackbird71 being competitor doesn't mean you can take out privacy from other browsers without asking and leaving it enabled by default. Competitors always ask if they want to import or not and they can't see if they have browser installed as portable. This Opera knew I have installed Chrome portable non-standard browser on my external drive which i'm unsure how and imported them. Clever haha

@torss Neither @burnout426 nor I are arguing in favor of Opera's auto-import policy, in fact we both probably disagree with that policy... but it's Opera's own decision whether to do it automatically unless the user opts out at installation time. What I was simply pointing out is that Google/Chrome is certainly already aware that Opera does it that way, since it knows what all its competitors' browsers do during their installation; and it has not attempted to block such auto-importing, either in its Chrome code, in chromium's code, or legally in court. As far as how Opera knew you had installed Chrome portable, it's trivial to search for the specific Chrome data file names (or those of any other browser), either directly or via OS registry entries, during an installation process - particularly if the other browser is listed as default in the OS.
