I have the same problem. Updated yesterday and since then ZERO videos work. I was able to get a few to work by using an addon called YouTube Flash HTML5. It seems that HTML5 is what is causing the biggest problem. BTW, all these videos work on both Chrome and Firefox. I really like Opera and have been using it as my main browser. I'd really hate to have to switch back, but I can't watch any videos on Facebook posts, nor animated Gifs! It's very frustrating.

But this can only be a temporary solution.

Thanks @appdevsw, and @l33t4opera on blog and here also.
The key factor on this current version of opera is that the libffmpeg.so needs to replace the version included with opera.
Past versions of opera would work this way but didn't require it.
This file in /resources dir ffmpeg_preload_config.json is still the same though. ??
I am using the version 67 lib from:
                    chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_67.0.3396.62-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64 on debian 9.

I have had the same problem. Videos in Facebook not playing, videos on Bitchute.com not working.
Have had to start up the Brave web browser to get them playing.
I will try the method mentioned above, On Linux Mint there is no /usr/lib64/opera directory, but there is /usr/x84_64-linux-gnu/lib/opera. It might take me a while to try it though.

@gloewa I agree, it would be good if these things were tested and not released if it is not working until they get it working. Every time they do this it gives the users major headaches and wasted time/productivity.

I see. The file is gone, but you can try a newer version.
                            Look at link text

                            Today I found chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_69.0.3472.3-0ubuntu1~ppa1~17.10.1_amd64.deb there.

I didn't test libffmpeg.so from this file it, but I hope it works.

On my PC everything back to normal.

                                    This is a easy fix!

                                    1. Download the last libffmpeg from here and decompress it.

                                    2. Install at Opera directory, click at the top left corner at the Opera logo and About Opera, look at your Opera Installation path, on Debian is at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera

                                    3. Copy the libffmpeg.so to that path with:
                                      sudo cp libffmpeg.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera

                                    4. Restart Opera
                                      alt text

The fix is not permanent, for every Opera update you need to do this again.
For Debian there is no chromium codec and this libffmpeg is always up-to-date and align with Opera updates.

@bombacha It's not a solution at all, Opera development quality is worsening with every version. I'm using Opera Beta and this issue was introduced with Opera Beta 54 somewhere around 26-27th of May. After a month of "testing" same bug goes straight to Stable version...

btw, the lib I extracted for use on deb 9 came from here:
                                          http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-chromium-builds/stage/ubuntu/pool/main/c/chromium-browser/chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_67.0.3396.62-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb
Generally, the saiarcot repos are the best source for the newest versions.
                                          http://ppa.launchpad.net/saiarcot895/chromium-beta/ubuntu/pool/main/c/chromium-browser/
or the dev branch in @appdevsw post above.

But, the stable ubuntu repos should be at v 67 some time soon.
The chromium browser in debian 9 is already at v67.

                                            @appdevsw I have used a file from here. http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-chromium-builds/stage/ubuntu/pool/main/c/chromium-browser/
I had to look up which version of Ubuntu that Linux Mint 18.3 was based on. Found the answer was 16.04, so I have used the chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_67.0.3396.62-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb file. (I am on a PC with AMD CPU motherboard).
It's a bit complicated when there are so many different version of the file for different versions of Ubuntu and processors. Would be a lot better if this software was tested before release. It probably wasted about 2 hours of my time.
