Opera Mail 2 and multiple personalities

Hi,

I am wondering is there a way to set up multiple personalities in M2? I have a domain and I am wondering how to do that if possible?

You'd think you'd be able to cheat and set up an account like this:

TOOLS > MANAGE ACCOUNTS

ADD ACCOUNT

EMAIL

FIRST NAME GOES HERE:

< HIT NEXT>

LOG IN NAME: Chris@CWM030.com

Password: < Password here >

INCOMING SERVER INFO: < Erace whats in that box >

UNTICK THE 2 BOXES UNDER INCOMING SERVER INFO

FILL OUT OUTGOING SERVER INFO

CHECK USE TLS

Thanks. Yes. It's an import from the old forums here, so some things are broken. I should probably try to fix it.

But, what the link points to is basically the idea you suggest, which is to create a separate account for each extra identity and only use the outgoing servers for the all those. The downside is that sent messages for those identities will each be separated into their own accounts. At least you can see them together in "All Messages/Sent". Another downside is that when you reply to a message sent to a specific identity, the "From" address won't select the correct one automatically. You'll have to remember to manually select the correct one. To work around that, you use the incoming server for all the extra identity accounts too and make sure you choose to reply to the copy that's in the account you want to reply from.. But then, you get duplicates (1 extra copy per extra identity) of all your incoming messages.

So, in short, you can kind of fake it, but it's not perfect.

I kinda feel dumb saying this but.. You lost me on the quoted part above... I don't understand.

When you reply to a message in Opera Mail, in the 'From' drop-down in the compose tab that loads up, Opera will automatically select the correct 'From' address based upon the account the message you're replying to belongs to. Opera does this by looking at the "mail address" field value in the account's properties. This means that if the message is from the account you3@example.com, when you reply to it, the 'From' address will default to you3@example.com instead of you1@example.com.

So, what that means in this case is that if someone sends a message to one of your identities (you3@example.com), if you're only making use of the incoming server in account 1 (you1@example.com), when you reply to that message, even though it has a 'To' address of you@example.com, when you reply, since the message belongs to account1 (you1@example.com), the 'From' address will default to "you1@example.com" instead of you3@example.com and you'll have to *remember* to manually switch it to you3@example.com before sending or the wrong address (you1@example.com instead of you3@example.com) will be in the From header in the outgoing message (leaking your original address for example).

There's no good way to work around that. However, *if* you make use of the incoming server for every one of the accounts, you'll get a duplicate for each message for each extra account. But, *if* you reply to the correct copy (the one that belongs to the you3@example.com account), the 'From' address will default to the correct account. In short, it's a huge compromise to do it this way.

On a side, when you compose a *new* message, the 'From' address defaults to the last-used account. You can set it to a specific account if you click on the wrench icon at the top right of the compose toolbar. The exception to this behavior though depends on where you're focused in the mail panel. If you're focused on the access point for a specific account, the 'From' address will default to that account instead of the last-used/specific. Same thing happens when you right-click in the mail panel and set "show messages from" to a specific account.
