      (1) To get the FULL "back" menu to appear in Opera 18:

… and I miss the back button one could add (or replace with the existing back button) with a pulldown menu to go several steps back in one go. Practical for sites that often spins you forward a step or two when you follow a link. (I have not found any such on Opera 18)

Just keep the mouse button pressed down for about a second when clicking on the back button and said menu will appear.

      (2) To find the Quick Access Bar (QAB):

To find a LOT of options for Opera, including the Quick Access Bar, type "opera:flags" in your search bar in Opera 18 or 19 then scroll down.

      There you will find:

      1. BOOKMARKS BAR which is actually the Quick Access Bar (QAB)
      2. Themes
      AND MANY OTHER OPTIONS

      (3) Power User Mode for Opera 19:

      http://www.ghacks.net/2013/11/04/opera-19-developer-update-enable-operas-power-user-mode/

      (4) To get a Booksmark button on your Search toolbar: (where you can have ALL your bookmarks organized as you wish in folders and sub-folders)

Go to extensions and get extension:

      Download Chrome Extension (https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en)
(this enables many other extensions to work on Opera such as the Home button and the bookmarks button, etc.)

      Then download:

      Bookmarks Manager (https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/bookmarks-manager/?display=en)

This puts a button on your Toolbar for all your bookmarks (separate from QAB)

      (5) To get a HOME button on your Toolbar, which you can customize:

      https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/homepage-in-new-tab/?display=en

      (6) If you want a button for all your favourite sites as in the old SESSIONS, this is helpful:

      https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/favourite-sites/?display=en

Or you can put many in one folder on Speed Dial, right click and "Open All"

Under "Opera", "Settings", on the left it says "Opera Help". That can be very useful as well answering some questions about this new version of Opera.

I will add more helpful things to this post as I come to them as there doesn't seem to be anywhere where all the shortcuts and customizations are kept at the moment.

@bjdobson: Kudos on a constructive topic/thread and post!

But I do hope that Opera might take initiative in this by publishing and maintaining a rich list of version-specific instruction and how-to's (in one, accessible place) that the devs and others have discovered. The forum "search" function is just not adequate for this with bits and pieces scattered over dozens of threads and blogs. Trying to figure out many of these tricks and techniques amidst the continual version turbulence is a lot like trying to herd puppies... 😉

          In Settings:

          1. Enable rocker gestures
          2. Enable advanced keyboard shortcuts (single-key shortcuts)
          3. Show the quick access bar (after enabling it in opera:flags
          4. Disable tab bar's top spacing when browser window is maximised
          5. Disable preloading of Discover contents if you don't use the feature
            More:
          6. Bookmark your home page on the Quick Access Bar
          7. Bookmark Settings and Flags pages on the Quick Access bar
          8. Drop Speed Dials on top of each other to Create Speed Dial Folders
          9. Data Files to Backup
          10. Create your own Themes

Thanks! 😃 I found it tiresome to look through all the posts and forums to find this stuff. I don't mine using Opera 19 now as much as I did though I still prefer the old Opera with full skins and customizable toolbars.

I do notice Opera 19 is working better for more sites, though, which is great!

I'm still looking for help to learn how to:

                  (1) Open new tab (from link) to the far right rather than right next to tab I'm using if I so choose

                  (2) I want to be able to do what used to be under Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Downloads.

                  (3) I want to be able to do what used to be under Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs.

                  (4) NEVER reuse tab to open links. Open NEW tab any time I click a link, if I so choose.

Anyone know how to do any of these?

Have you tried Classic Tabs? It has a setting "Open all tabs at the end of the tab bar" which makes all new tabs pop up on the right.

                      http://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/classic-tabs/?display=en

It also has an option to force Shift Click to open a new tab instead of window, but it doesn't work for me.

Side note: Anyone know of an extension to fix the address bar? I've given up on being able to ever see the HTTP or query parameters ever again, but it should AT LEAST let me copy an URL fully. I had to manually type the http onto that pasted URL above, for example. Took me a minute to realize why it wasn't auto-linking.

I believe that it does. Just focus the field and copy.

By habit I cut and paste URLs, likely due to cut being above copy when right clicking. I just noticed that. So the issue is with cutting. Would that count as a bug? Maybe I should report it.

It's not that either. Cut also works, from the menu or with Ctrl X. Try to diagnose the real cause before reporting any bugs. It's probably by design if there's a way to cut or copy part of the URL.

When I highlight a field now in the address bar, the entire address is displayed. Great!

The classic tabs works perfectly, GFREX, thank you so much!

Thanks. I'll disable some extensions and try to figure out whats causing it.

EDIT: Disabled all extensions and looked through opera:flags disabling anything it could be yet it still does not work with cutting. Both on Opera 19 and 18 and both by right clicking and cutting or just Ctrl X. Copy works just fine for me, though. Oh well.

I'm sorry Opera team, but fix this shit. Pardon my french.

I can't find anything. Where the heck is Opera Link? I was completely happy Synching all my bookmarks with my Android device and Opera Classic, now you've turned the PC version into the awful Opera browser beta. Performance has improved but everything else has been messed up. Why would I install extensions and who the hell what else just to see my bookmarks? I just want to check them at a glance, well organised like it used to be, period.

I just can't bear this, I think im going to Chrome, Firefox, or even Dolphin.

Go to extensions and get extension:

OK, I did those things, but I still don't see any bookmark button or my bookmarks. My bookmarks - about 4,000 of them - seem to have been imported somewhere but I don't know where...maybe the speed dial...

I just want to have my bookmark panel on the left like Firefox has it and like Opera always used to have it, but which Chrome doesn't, which is basically the only thing I don't like about Chrome. Is Opera morphing into a bad copy of Chrome?

Did you restart Opera every time it asked you to? You should see a button on the right of your address bar where all your bookmarks should be.

It worked perfectly for me and my hundreds of bookmarks are now all there.

Oh, I see there's a button on the right, and it opens up some sort of truncated "bookmark - manage and import" thing that apparently shows a few (?) of my 4,000 bookmarks, but unless I'm doing something all wrong this is no good at all for me. I just want my bookmarks to stay open on a left panel like they used to, plus Opera used to have an additional nice feature where you clicked the left edge of the screen and the bookmark panel opened and closed. Something like this is, I think, like Chrome, only worse, at least for me. I want my many bookmarks to be easily accessible without going through multiple steps.
